Glad to see this getting a bump.

I went back a reread the thread and wondered what an ersatz artist den is?

My father in law has a beautiful ersatz artist's den at the bottom of his garden

built with a mixture of bits and bobs, lots of recycled materials etc. Inside it's all painted white, has a clearish room where he paints and then in the back there's a workbench and lots of old tools. It smells like turps and always feels peaceful in there. Outside is stained black palletwood cladding and a courtyard with lots of pots growing.
