The question its self is one of those bullshit traps isn't it, as if we can't begin to legislate how industry operates unless we are all sorting our rubbish and using paper straws (themselves an issue for a fair few people)

Agreed. I remember Naughtie on the Today programme once interviewing the CEO of a company that was trying to build a big solar farm somewhere and spending the whole time grilling him on why he didn't have solar panels on his own roof.
