Lib Dems must be furious they're getting no bounce out of this at all.

Probably didn't help that Truss was an LD in a previous life

Anyone interested in how everyone reacts when the sentencing for the killing of Harry Dunn is revealed to be inevitably soft?
What's worse, escaping justice by fleeing the country or escaping justice by pleading guilty in court and just paying a £200 fine?
-

She's still in the US right, I'm sure the sentence will be meaningless whatever happens.
You'd hope, as she wouldn't actually receive any punishment unless she returns to the uk (I think?) that they'd throw the book at her. -
• #78781
Not that it helps the Dunn family, but her life, and probably that of her immediate family, is ruined.
-
• #78782
The Dunns have said they don’t want to see her separated from her family and they were happy with the lesser careless rather than dangerous driving charge as she plead guilty.
Remarkable people it seems.

Shit getting serious now.

Yet she could have just stayed, plead it down to careless, paid £200 and fucked off inside 6 months. They might have even given her a lift to the airport.
-
• #78785
Yes - they had a choice between ruined and blighted and they picked the former and put the Dunns through more agony. They’ll take that to the grave.

I imagine an Interpol warrant might be outstanding and she can have limited travel until tue end of days

Got mixed feelings TBH. Shit polls higher than Shite.
People really need to cut down on their American telly consumption. -

Khrishnan for PM. Maybe just make a party out of all the usual Channel 4 characters and news presenters, hell even the voice over advert peeps, certainly get my vote.

Shite is Scottish vernacular by the way, ya wee radge ye...
-

I first saw it used in Viz circa '87. As in hadaway an' shite. Did the geordies borrow it, just seems to suit the accent so well.
-
• #78791
Used pretty heavily up north east but couldn't say if we didn't just steal it from Scotland.
-

Neither of them is USian? They might say shit but it definitely comes in several flavours of British accent.
-
• #78793
In my youth (and there wasn't that much American TV around then) I'd say shit was predominant with shite being viewed as less offensive.

And I think ye'll find it's oor oil....

France joins the Netherlands in pulling out of the Energy Charter Treaty which was
set up in 1994 to protect western energy firms working in former Soviet countries. It allows investors to sue governments which enact policies that could undermine their expected financial returns.
and
In August, the UK oil firm Rockhopper received a £210m award as compensation for an Italian offshore drilling ban. Italy has also withdrawn from the treaty.
Hopefully will start to limit future fossil oil exploration if there is no way to seek compensation from stranded assets due to changes in policy

China having the opposite problem to UK with Xi Jinping looking to get a third term and be elevated to "People's Leader" or Chairman which would give him rule for life:

Newcastle is far closer to Scotland than the home counties. I don't think there's a hard linguistic border at Berwick.
Half the time we were Scotland. We stole lots of bits from Scotland. But then again they stole lots of bits back from us.
I was quite a way past childhood before I twigged the word I'd always heard as "ben" (as in "give the bens their tea") and the word "bairn" in written Scottish were the same word.

Also the consequential impact on Local Authorities, particularly re SEN, with the ‘obvious solution’ of Capita or the like taking over.
We need a change of government urgently before we’re left with a Robocop/Fight Club hellscape

Exactly, when you resort to getting rid of all the teaching assistants to balance the books, its those that society should be supporting the most that will get left behind
HOLY FUCK
