  • Job done, thank you.

  • How did the summoning go?

  • I'm here, aren't I?

  • It has been some years ago since I went to London and our objectives have changed a bit this time. But what/where are my best options for staying a weekend + couple days with the family (6 adults and 4 kids) without donating a kidney?

  • Is there a simple (free?) front end for a Wahoo Kicker to run on Win7/Linux (via Bluetooth) that just gives power/time etc?

  • The Wahoo app is free I thought, or at least you can show the stats etc without paying extra for workouts

  • Nothing came. I blame the cat.

  • There are a couple of cheap hotels near Clapham South tube. I've stayed in one, and I reckon a Dignitas clinic would probably be more uplifting. I'd prefer the Premier Inn in Brixton, where I live. I've never been inside, but I imagine it's the same as other Premier Inns. 100 yards to Brixton tube, which is 11 mins to Oxford Circus. The Victoria line is twice as fast as the others, so we get quite a few people using Brixton as a cheap base for West End shows and shopping. And Brixton itself is fun to explore. Huge choice of places to eat.

Then there's Airbnb, which I know nothing about. Maybe you could find a whole house and squeeze the kids into a shared room?

  • Thanks duncs ..... that's not Win7 unfortunately....

  • Tried installing it? I can’t imagine there’s much in it that wouldn’t work on Win7, even if it’s bashed up as a Win10 app

  • Peak District trip: Road, gravel or mountain bike?

  • Best ask in the PD Riding thread though. Depends on what you want to get from the trip I guess though. At this time of year getting off of the roads might be better choice?

  • Ta. Only room for one, sadly

  • Anyone got some examples of schemes where you're financially rewarded (per mile?) for actually cycling to work? Not cycle to work schemes.

  • Wouldn't that be a taxable benefit if cycling to your regular office?

I've claimed mileage for cycling to not my usual place of work. Some employers paid it, some didn't. 20p/mile as allowed by HMRC.

  • That is usually reimbursement for business miles, e.g. delivering something to a different site or if you have a temporary relocation of office

  • Thanks both. I'm thinking more of an incentive scheme to encourage people to cycle? Could have imagined it, but I thought I read about it maybe 3 years ago or so.

  • In 2017 & 2018 my previous employer entered the Travel West competition, which is not exactly what you're after I don't think, but the aim was to incentivise cycling and other green(er than individual cars) methods of commuting. Build up points or kudos or something for every mile travelled, and possibly some vouchers or something for the winner, both company and individual?

  • Does it have to be cash specifically? I have a friend whose employer uses this and gets regular rewards of moderate value:

  • an incentive scheme to encourage people to cycle?

What, apart from lower costs and better physical and mental health?

  • As others have mentioned, you're probably going to fall foul of tax rules with something like this.

  • Remember that it is 'People' we're dealing with here, logic and facts aren't relevant

  • Remember that it is tax law we're dealing with here, logic and facts aren't relevant

    ftfy 🙂

People are susceptible to non-monetary incentives, ones which need investment from an employer but don't attract BIK tax. Secure bike storage, changing/showering/clothes drying facilities, even free loan of a commuting bike and certain associated equipment. By the time your employer has lent you a bike, helmet, reflective rain jacket and lights, you're better off than getting a taxable 20p/mile and buying that stuff yourself.

  • I'm using this, had no idea it was a thing.
