I really like Tomado, not as deep as string but way cheaper and the metal shelves do not bend under weight, whenever i have looked at string in shops the demo units often seem to have sagged shelves.

Still seems pretty frothy!

I’ve never had that issue

I think London has broken my brain because that seems like a buy to me!
EDIT: just realised that it's not double-fronted. Weird, was it one house that's been cut into two with the garden shared unequally?

Isn't that shelf top right sagging?
-

Wank Mag rack looks bent too.

So it's a new build 2 up 2 down with a loft conversion?
-

It's a period building recently refurbished. If you look at Street View it's one house in 2020 but in a poor state of repair.

This is the other half

lol. I take back my comments on value.
Buy the whole thing as a wreck for £1.25, chop up & try and sell each half for £1.5! -

Yeah String shelves bend, Vitsoe shelves do not.

Insane. Still the floorplans of the finished units look like a 2up/2down with loft conversion. Hopefully the market price re-correction puts all these property developers to the wall. No way are those worth that kind of money.

Current mortgage is a 2 year fixed, which expires at the end of the year, a new 2 year fixed would see my new monthly cost be 160% of my current one.

This is the other half
fuck lol

Appreciate that vitsoe are the gold standard, and I’m all for buying the best up front, but unless I’m pleasantly surprised by their response to my spur of the moment inquiry, I can’t imagine that will progress any further.
String was an option, but the fear of buckling shelves for what will predominantly be a bookshelf is certainly enough to put me off.
The exercise started with ikea options, Billy, Ivar or boaxel, but are there any other good, affordable options I’m missing? I also liked the look of the sklum modular shelves but there isn’t much information about them from owners.

Fittingly, with a 4 bay 2.5m wide by 2.4m tall (limited to full sheet timber size) is coming out at just over £1500 (before discount, seems if you take a virtual consultation, you get a 25% discount).
Good range of customisation in finishes. I couldn't get the tool to equally space the shelves, but you could get the "consultation" or their online chat help to do that.
Not much different to Billy though if you go that route and not sure if they deliver to Ireland.

Yeah sorry should’ve made that clearer. I remember when it sold hoping it wasn’t to a developer and quickly seeing it was.
-
• #55594
If it's any consolation (which it is to me) the developer is likely sitting on a £1 mm+ bridging loan now costing upwards of 1% per month?

Twin slot is the other obvious option. Cheap, easy to fit and as strong as you need it to be.
-
• #55596
Regalraum have some modular options including a vitsoe-esque rail mounted system, and a string style system.
-
• #55597
Vitsoe, you won't regret it and if you want to sell it it's easy. I make furniture and I have lots of Vitsoe because it's overall better value than anything I can make.
-
• #55598
I'm also going to add my voice to the vitsoe love-in. It just works.

I might have misread the brief, but your OP sounds like you want bookshelves over ~70% of one wall to house lots of books in a room that will almost only be used to work in.
Imo your initial plan of the Billy bookcase hack is the right one. Black twinslot with nice looking shelves is another (potentially) cheaper option - but the lack of a sides, back and proper top is less practical than the Billy idea.
If it was for your living room housing a mix of items then investing in Vitsoe might make sense. But if you're looking for shelves to store your books then you want bookshelves. Going any other way seems like form over function.
Sorry if I've missed something.

Got 10 days left on a mortgage offer for a sale that’s taken months to complete . Original offer accepted was April . Can I go back a revise my offer with a week to go ?
Yeah it’s a fair bit cheaper and can often get discount or second hand bits (as it’s modular)
