So the bankers get their bonuses back.
The triple lock on pensions is not guaranteed.
No guarantee on benefits.
Windfall taxes a possibility. This isn't really any better a mini budget for anyone than the last one is it?

So the bankers get their bonuses back
They've had them for years. All the "cap" ever did was increase base salaries to support the bonuses (as it was only the ratio between the two that was ever regulated).
-
• #78681
Sure but salaries arent related to results and therefore risk in the same way the bonuses are, it's not the Money they earn that bothers me. It's the risks they take to get there.

This is overall a good thing. Elon, trump and Ye all buying social platforms to allow ‘freedom’ for the right will just split them up.
Don’t want all of the nutcases in one place.

Can we just agree nuclear isn’t a good idea. Imo 100% not renewable. Despite what edf says

I don't necessarily agree with you, but think that given the advances in fusion technology we start getting into the habit of distinguishing the two in speech.

No.
-
• #78691
Yes.
Tidal power, which we don’t use at all, could generate way more energy. Expensive but not as expensive as nuclear once you consider disposal. And a lot less risky. And then there’s the sun. We really are at the infant stage of technology to harvest it directly. -
• #78692
I thought that the theoretical tidal installations that could generate huge amounts of power have to be on tidal estuaries and really fuck with fish, dolphins, whales etc.
-
• #78693
Cool, didn't know this. The largest tidal power project has the ancillary benefit of providing fresh seawater to a seriously contaminated reservoir.

Don't want to be dismissive, and absolutely willing to accept that things have moved on since I last looked at a tidal project, but tidal is really fucking hard.
You're limited in the number of fresh water locations. The sea is a very tough location both in terms of installation/maintenance and wear/damage. There isn't the depth of skills and experience that you have with other forms of RE, nor the sort of standardisation of equipment.
I realise nuclear isn't a walk in the park, but there is a huge amount of experience and know how in the sector - albeit largely foreign.
-
• #78695
Now if the government stopped funding subsidising and licensing new oil projects and invested in whale friendly tidal generation, and invested in the grid so solar energy could be more widely generated then the Dartford crossing would be open and the glass covering Van Gogh’s sunflowers wouldn’t need to be wiped down.
-
• #78696
The crying shame with nuclear is that governments never kept financial pressure up on energy companies to find solutions to the waste, or to develop more efficient decommissioning processes.
This is how we've ended up with Sizewell C (possibly) being built while Sizewell A has another 75 years left to be made fully safe, partly at taxpayer expense.
Wouldn't it have been nice if instead of building Sizewell C on important nature land it could have been built where the inactive Sizewell A is now?

I read that as cipollini being the name of the crime committed. Like, what does wife beating have to do with onions?
-

Haha, I'll correct the lower case c!

Wow. I can't think of another cycling god who's actually done time. Cipo takes Lance's crown for Most Evil Racer Ever.
