I have a bed bound, slightly demented, 85 year old, dad who is now dying, the end of life care plan was agreed last week. They have been losing weight as they don’t want to eat and are now down to 49kgs. The home he is in were talking about increasing his dietary supplement but, realistically, is there any point? He won’t get better, get out of bed or walk, am I prolonging things or will I cause more pain to him? I thought stopping eating was part of the closing down process.

That is a very difficult and personal question that other people are likely to have their own opinions on base don their family, but they mean fuck all to you, your Dad and your family. You will maybe already know what your Dad would rather do. Or you have an idea and are seeking validation, which is completely understandable.

That is definitely something you can speak to the care home or medical staff about minimising as much as possible.

Stopping eating can very much be part of the closing down process. In some ways it's the only thing that the person doing it can control.

Everyone makes different decisions about how to approach this but my own was that it does prolong suffering to intervene. It's still a very difficult process to witness.

I remember my Aunt saying "just let me go". She didn't want her life prolonged. It was so sad to hear it. But she was mentally 100%. Everyone has to go. Most of us can't choose when. I'm afraid I'm ducking your question because I shouldn't interfere. I don't think any of us should, but we all hope you can be at peace with what happens.

If you've got the parts you can build what you want, I don't think you'd find anything that niche off the shelf though, looking for 650b will probably make finding things easier, 27.5 is more MTB terminology.

People have adapted 26" frames to 700C, 650B is less of a stretch. Still going to need the brake posts moved, but Bettini hasn't said whether he owns a brazing torch 🙂

Ha, I wouldn't trust myself... I was looking to use the adjustable V-brakes (like the ones Paul do) to accommodate the 650b.

It's an early 90s MTB frame which I'm (over sentimentally) updating/resurrecting. I can't find many MTB specific 130mm rim brake hubs, but there's a few options for road.

Am I asking for catastrophe if I use road hubs (I'll not be doing anything more than a bit of gravel on it)?

Or should I just get some disc hubs laced to rim-brake rims?

Is the frame 130mm? Use road hubs, people ride much harder stuff on them than you're likely to do. If it's 135mm, there are not many choices in true discless hubs. Shimano T780 springs to mind, it's XT quality so fine, but it won't take 11-speed road cassettes. 11-speed MTB cassette will work though. There are plenty of 135mm MTB disc hubs, and here Centrelock works to your advantage; it's a shit rotor mounting system, but with no rotor attached it's unobtrusive 🙂

Ah of course. Pretty sure you can get a 135mm axle for some of their 130mm road hubs too (which again is prob what we’re lookin at with the pacenti)

That's not actually a thing, at least not on a 90s MTB. If it's 126mm (possible, but odd), you might as well get it cold set to 135mm rather than messing about.

Just dug out the calipers and can confirm 126mm. Have had a quick look at cold setting it, looks simple enough to do at home?

Depends a bit on what frame you have and how much you value it. Something beater grade that you don't want to invest in should bend pretty well, just read up on it thoroughly and put some time into your set up and workholding. You want the tubes to bend, not the joints.

How do I print a pentagram which is 5cm wide on the printer paper? Got a Windows PC, and nothing of the Photoshop ilk, and would rather not learn such.
