  • the speed king is a very nice and - of course - fast tire. race sport means black chili i guess, so not to bad if it is dry. had a small puncture today, so was running out of air in a "steep" downhill section... not my kind of fun ;-) tubeless or at least latex milk coming next.

  • So a little while ago I traded my Serotta for this + some cash. Gotta say I was disappointed with what I received, totally knackered drivetrain, broken hanger, and shot brakes. Was so bummed that I’ve just been sitting on it, with zero work done.

  • So I started rebuilding it today. Lots of simple green, and like 3 coats of bike lust brining it back to life.

Installed a IRD monster cross fork, had to drill the back to get the rack to mount with a recessed nut. And began the wiring for a dynamo charger in the steerer tube. Will be building some new 650b wheels.

  • Looking fwd to that!
Guess it isn't made in Massachusetts so not in your own thread.

  • Had a first quick ride to pickup my parcel today with the FTF (fat tyre fixed).
35mm g one isn't dat phat really, but happy how it turned out. Original plan was 650b and 47mm; but the bike handled all weird and I felt slow a f.
Frame is a an Octane One Kode rattlecanned Hammerite Grey.
    Mostly SRAM (levers, cranks),
    TRP (discs, HYRD in front),
Rear hub is Surly Ultra New 135mm.
Put the bolt on cog on the 6 bolt side, a disc adapter plus disc on the fixed side. Works well.

  • That looks like loads of fun!

  • Needs a -6 stem and a steerer chop I reckon

  • ...tough crowd..;)
I like it like this, due to keeping options in the future and I like to have a tall steerer, because I sling my bag behind it.

  • Also, -17degree stem is exactly horizontal.

  • I think the rack you are using isn't quite what the Ile was designed for. If you compare it to a soma porteur rack, the support at the rear of the rack is only the width between the straps, so the clips don't need to be very tight to secure the bag.

  • -17degree stem is exactly horizontal

You need a horizontal top tube for this

  • Okokokok I understand your point.
    But think about the practicality.

  • Is this a minoura gamoh rack? What do you think of it if so?

  • Yes it is.
My choice was between a Pelago or this one; chose this because it was
    A) bigger platform
    B) cheaper

The painted steel isn't that durable though. The joints on the platform already started to rust a little bit.
The Pelago is stainless so should be more durable, and the different fixings gives it more options.
I used a Velo Orange (I think) lower fork bracket to get it lower. If i'ld used the Minoura bracket it would've been much higher and further to the front and I would've needed to use the front eyelets.
But all in all, happy with my choice!

  • 403mm a-c Identiti something after market fork btw

  • But think about the practicality.

    Urgh boring

  • Great review, thanks!

  • It's not so much the tightness of the straps, more the tightness of the buckles, they just take a lot of force to engage/disengage.

Have actually grown to like it much more now that I've got used to it, but still wish the buckles were fidlock or something.

  • Nice build!
I'd also change the stem for a 6 degree one though.

I'm curious: Why did you not mount the disc onto the 6 bolt side and the cog onto the threaded side of the hub?

  • Thanks!
    ignoring 6 degree stem comments

I had a bolt on cog lying around and thought i'ld give it a go.
The rear brake is more fo sho then real use; it's a legal requirement here in Germany.
Already and some difficulty with zee law here in Berlin regarding a rear brake and decided I don't want the hassle.
The cog threading has the right direction to take the brake forces too.
So I have a better cog mount, and no downside regarding the disc mount.
The disc is a bit far out though, and with the combination of the disc mount in the inner triangle of the frame was a bit of a faff setting up but now works.

I'll give the comments about the stem a ponder though; I have a 6 degree 120mm lying around.
Reminds me I also should install a bell; let's have a rummage in the spares.

  • Good day
