I got a Forerunner 255 a few months ago. Had no intention of using it as a watch - haven't had one for about 20 years - but am wearing it constantly. Don't have any experience of smart watches, but apparently you can answer incoming calls on the Garmin if you have a headset paired. No voice assistant, so no way to make calls as far as I'm aware.
Battery life is pretty good. Reckon I charge mine (when it's down to ~20%) every 10-15 days depending on how much I run - probabaly 80 min/week avg.
