Thanks. Not heard them called that before. Does the elastic not eventually give up?

Like some of those Meermins. But I fear an E fitting might be a bit narrow for me.

Takes a long time, and a competent shoe repair place could fix it. Also, the elastic is only really stretched when putting the boot on or taking it off, it's mostly relaxed when in use.
