A recent article on Which (based on tumble dryers but touched on other appliances too) had lots of the eco modes being shit. Energy use was only a bit lower and results were worse.

With energy prices so high now, it'd be interesting to know how the price stacks up now.
I think we paid £50 for our condenser (£30+£20 for a new heating element), so it would take quite a while before we'd see our money back. But even if you went new there's still a good £200-400 difference.
For us I was worried about low outdoor temps with a heat pump as ours is in a brick outdoor shed.

Oh ours sits on the standard or express mode and sod the cost. Frankly I can afford the 40p or whatever it is per expensive wash

Ah, this was the Which article

We don't use a specific eco mode on our heat pump dryer, but i did think the which figures for heat pump VS others are interesting
On average, the heat-pump dryers on our site will cost around £68 per year to run, based on drying three loads per week every week for a year.
In contrast, vented dryers cost around £167 per year to run and condenser dryers cost on average £170 a year to run, with the most energy-hungry of each type costing more.
So owning a heat-pump dryer will save you on average around £102 a year compared to a condenser dryer. -

Excitement in adulthood - first time I’ve had a modern washing machine in maybe 20yrs.
Seems quite trick for the money with DC brushless motor, auto dosing, wifi and all sorts. Tried to set it to a similar function to our old one last night and it took 40mins less time than our old one

Haier are the parent company of lots of other stuff - F&P, GE Appliances and Candy to name a few.
Their products are distributed in AU/NZ by F&P, some of the products use F&P technologies / platforms and come from the same factory, just for less money.

We’re renting a place with an Indesit washing machine, which I just noticed is a dryer too. But it doesn’t have a hose going outside or anything. How work? It seems too cheap and old to be some kind of heat pump / exchanger…

Probably just a condenser - i.e. it uses a conventional electrical element* as a heat source, but collects the water in a tank like a heat pump dryer does.
*I'm slightly assuming condenser dryers have an element here, I don't actually know for sure, never had one.

It'll work like a condenser and expell the water through the waste pipe.

You're a waste pipe

Thanks. I've never owned a dryer. The space we have for washer/dryer in the new place can't be vented so might look into this tech.

Works well. Had for years.

This is the type of washer/dryer I have. It's OK but not the quickest. Useful for socks and the like.

Air fryer is the best thing Ive bought in years

What about a ninja or similar multifunction unit, air fryer, pressure cooker, slow cooker all in one?
-
• #996
Can you do socks in an air fryer?
-
• #997
If you like them crispy, it's hard to beat a wok.

I worked at ninja a few years ago.
The Foodi is a really good hybrid unit if you want to do a bit more than just air frying.
If you do want to just get an air fryer I fully recommend getting the twin chamber one over the single

It's much faster than a large convection oven and the air flow is more intense so it dries out the surface of the food faster. I did some pretzels recently from frozen dough and the instructions
for a regular convection oven said 15min, preheated to 200C. The air fryer did it in 6min at 180C. -

Well that escalated quickly
My dishwasher gives me the same vibes. Oh the eco cycle is 4hrs and 15 minutes, that's fine.
