Anyone interested in an XL Omnium Cargo Classic (the one with the double top tube), fitted with a Bafang BBSHD? £1500.
Based in Bristol. Seen plenty of miles but still working well.

What are the main bikes used by commercial fleets?
PefalMe uses Urban Arrow. City Sprint, DHL, Zedify use Bullitt. Are there any others widely used commercially?

E-Cargo Bikes (who deliver for Ocado etc) use a make called Hercules. I'm not sure I know of any commercial fleets using anything else other than the bikes you've mentioned. If you wanted to include a broader range of cycles, beyond 2 wheelers, Iceni seem to be a fairly common cargo trike and I see quite a lot of EAV 4 wheelers about.

Lolz, I bet that took some wrestling to get it folded and tied up. Mattresses love to fight back!

• #10233
impressive!
i guess you did not squeeze through traffic? -
• #10234
Hah, yeah I did try and fight with it for a bit but ended up just using the ratchet straps to slowly fold it in half, then used the string to keep it there

I was a bit more cautious with my filtering for sure. But still managed to squeeze through some gaps ;-)

They are reasonable saw one yesterday, built in same place as the radwagon I reckon as lots of similar things on there.
Brakes and tyres id be immediately changing. That's what it came for yesterday burst rear tyre at the sidewall (bad tyre i guess) and brakes are at the cheap and wonky end of the spectrum. Some e bike trp or tektro and will work fine though! -

I saw them specced with cable discs.. you just know they’ll never put the expensive cable discs on there so will almost certainly be shit..
Thanks for the insight!

A set of matching tires has moderately improved its ungainly appearance I’m sure we can all agree. I splashed out on 2.15 Schwalbe Big Ben Plus. Had to pay double postage cos it was impossible to find anyone who had 20 + 27.5 in 2.15
There’s plenty of space for them other than the mudguard mount so that’ll probably have to be remodelled when I find some mudguards. Oh, and cos of the horizontal stays you have to deflate the tire to fit the wheel. Meh. Worth it for the cushion and balloon appeal imho.
Oh, and they are some hard tires to evenly seated for some reason.

Have a look at Continental Contact Urban.
I've found schwalbes cheaper tyres to be quite unround- whereas the two sets of Contact Urbans I've had have been flawless - they also roll really well and come in a wide range of sizes. -

Foolishly I already ignored this exact advice. Woe is me

They’re much better than big bens I think. Also about half the weight IIrC. last time I checked tho stock is pretty limited in the Uk at the mo.
I might be able to do a group order if anyones interested?
-
• #10243
I wasn’t able to find them in the size I needed- would’ve been into a group buy!

Ah sorry :-s. Nothing wrong with Big Bens though so don’t feel put out! Still pretty decent imo.
Also the bikes looking awesome 👌
Howre you finding the turning atm?
-
• #10245
Cheers dude! Yeah I’m happy enough with them, quite into their ridiculous levels of heft and puncture protection.
Waaaayyy more used to the turning now, was deffo good advice just to roll with it for a while. Still feels a bit tiny bit weird on tight low speed turns, but on the whole it trundles along beautifully with only a fairly minor snagging list now.

• #10246
You might be doing this already, but with tight low speed turns, it’s all about
No leaning
Pedalling in the Easiest gear
Holding the brake(s) slightly enough so you can pedal through it.IME anyway!
Practice with full steering lock

Hmm, i need to replace my front tyre on UA. Original Big Ben has lasted over 8000 miles.
Schwalbe Big Ben are about £24
Schwalbe Pick-Up are about £34
Conti Contact-Urban are out of stock :( -

Go with pickup!

It’s getting better all the time- low speed feels better now I got a right hand lever for the front disc brake so now my brake levers are on the correct side. The difference in braking power between the disc on the front and the hub on the back is mental.
Speaking of the hub, that’s the final snag. It’s a Sturmey Archer X-RD5(W) and try as I might, I just can’t get it to behave nicely. I’ve lubed the shifter, replaced the cable and tried indexing it according to the instructions multiple times and it’s still skippy and vague.
Should I
A) brave taking the hub apart
B) find a hub brake nexus or something. Are they the best budget option?
C) do a derailleur and disc conversion (do cheap disc adapters result in death? Are my mig skills up to welding some mounts on? Probably not)
D) some combination of the aboveAlso, this old surfboard soft roof rack nicely cushions the ride :)
