Anyone else's kid slump forward when they've fallen asleep in a seat?
Not mine, but Niece #2 has certainly done that.

Anybody used a hamax style seat on a bike that has a rear rack fitted too? Would both fit at the same time or do the feet bits fall in that area?
-
• #604
Should fit, but depends on the rack width a bit. Fits on mine, with a fairly standard width rack.
One thing is it may be a bit less comfortable for the kid, cos the seat will slam into the rack on hard bumps, instead of using the full springiness of the mount stays.

Thanks, it’s quite a slim rack so hopefully it’ll be ok.
Hah good point. Maybe the fat tyres will absorb some of that.

Cheers. Sounds like that's the way to go in the future.
But seeing that yaba up there does make me want something bigger. However, I have no idea where I'd store it.
A 2nd hand On One Inbred seems like good bang for the buck. @danielj did you ever put a rear seat on yours? Any issues? Would recommend, etc? Cheers

I only had the front Thule Yep seat for mine and now saving up for some sort of cargo/longtail. The Inbred is a solid bike though and I had mine built up with a rigid fork and there was no problem with the extra weight on the bike packing everything we needed in a carradice on the back

Definitely this on my partner's bike. Either mount a good bit higher or mount basically loaded onto the rack.

I'm selling a front bike seat if anyone is interested.

Dying to take my 12 month daughter on my bike. What are my options? I have a(n alloy) disc brake road bike with mounts for racks etc which I could utilise; I live on the Isle of Wight near very quiet country roads, but limited access to cycle paths. It's a bit hilly but I'd only be taking her a short way to places I guess. Ideally I'd like to buy some sort of cargo bike to haul her around in but that's gonna be a way off. Whatever I end up with I'd like to be able to take her to nursery in it. I do have a pizza rack and Restrap rando bag on this bike at the moment which does make it feel a bit sketchy, I wonder if I'll need to remove this before carrying her anywhere...
Oh, my partner also rides, but doesn't have a bike with any mounts. Which is why I'm perhaps thinking about a trailer which we could both use, but is that a wise idea given the lack of local dedicated segregated cycle paths / abundance of hills?

Trailer sounds like a good idea, plus its multi use not just kid hauling

• #613
Yeah. Leaning towards this tbh.

Just chuck a Hamax seat on for now. You can get one in Halfords.

Yepp Mini has been great for me

We got a trailer when our two were 3yrs/9mo. It was fine on road as long as you avoid the scary traffic. Most people give you room.

pretty close to done on a 90's cannondale with a thule yepp mini, I'll add pictures in a bit.
question: kickstands, which ones are good? i'm thinking central bipod?
thanks!

Centerstands certainly make life easier. That said I’ve had a Yepp mini on bikes both with and without stands. Currently have a hamax seat on the front of a bike without a stand, though that will soon change.
Here’sa Bigfoot style action shot. This was last night for our youngest’s first bike ride (9mo). She loved it by the way.

Awesome photo, last night? I take it you're not in snowy London with those shorts.
do you recommend a brand or model in particular for the centre stand?
-
• #621
Thanks, and yeah not London. Still an unseasonably warm night at ~50°F. Looking at some snow this week.
For centerstands, the best I’ve ever used was on the Bullitt that I had for a bit. It was so wide and sturdy, but that’s an outlier.
We have a Pletscher style stand on our new household ebike. Seems to work pretty nicely!

thanks for that, super useful

do you mean like this one?

Yep! That’s the one. There are others as well which are more sturdy, but maybe overkill depending on how you intend to use the bike.

perfect, just need to get my son in and out of the seat without worrying too much, this was one of my favourites before asking anyway, just glad to have it confirmed that it's sturdy
Am getting my daughter more and more used to being in the bike. She is not quite 18 months old yet.
She’s slowly getting there. The helmet was the biggest issue with her wanting to keep it on and also planning around naps. I’ve also tried to stick to short rides for now. I’m hoping later in the year with warmer weather we can go for longer rides.
My son on the other hand, he did 48km on the back of the bike this week, and will be on there again on Friday morning.
Got caught in the rain on Tuesday (thankfully I was by myself). Had wet pants, but got a cool photo. Also, this was the tunnel I rode through earlier that day…
