  • I think the stated intent (personal freedom) is probably similar, but what that means in practice is very different because libertarianism leans towards a rugged individualism (dog eat dog) whereas progressivism might claim to be for voluntary but collective action.

  • Kwarteng claiming he had "no other choice" is just the cherry on top. Shows the man is completely blinded by ideology.

  • So what’s Kwarteng’s destination, Hunger Games?

  • His plan appears to be if we can create greater profits by squeezing the proles more the balance sheet will look nice, so lower tax's for wealth extractors and austerity 2.0 for the rest

Using gogglebox as an accurate gauge of the mood of the country, he may of misjudged things

  • Socially progressive

Socially progressive in this context would mean wanting to progress away from the social norms of the, say, 1950s and towards a more gender equal society with plenty of tolerance towards gays, trans, immigrants etc. Having gay friends and dating someone from another ethnic group doesn't automatically make you favour govt intervention.

  • gogglebox

Love that they voice their opinions so vehemently

  • Question Time was also quite stark. Everyone's hands went up when Richard Bacon asked them if they were worried about their financial situation. Then he asked if anyone had benefited from the budget and not a single hand...

  • Goggle box has probably taught me more about Britain today than living here could. It’s probably a touch too positive of an example though…even for the current government.

  • Surely the Levelling Up Secretary's job is now redundant. The efficiency drive is working.

  • HIGNFY last night was on point

  • Tory conference kicks off with Daniel Grainger, the chair of the Young Conservative Network, calling Brum a dump.

  • but is he wrong?

  • Southend. Though it was a town in 2021.
    Ely.
    Inverness is quite sad feeling.

  • No, Birmingham is a great city

  • Exciting, car centric cities are the future!

  • “Nation’s industrial powerhouse… the sound of disco music in the air…”

Tory party conference PR right now, no

  • My dad's worked in Brum his whole life - I remember showing him that film a few years back and he got all misty eyed about it.

Coventry's likely even more alien to them than Birmingham if the Tories want a day out to laugh at people and places local to the hosts of their shitty conference.

  • Get them on a night out in Nuneaton or Bedworth for proper local action.

  • Bedworth! It's been tiiiiiiiiime!

  • The Sunday Times have three stories suggesting Tory knives are out; Kwasi champagne party with hedge funds on night of mini-budget, Truss has two more staff still on lobbyist payrolls "on secondment" and has ordered Charles to stay away from COP27

  • The student pouring a bucket of human shit over a Captain Tom memorial is the most LUFGUSS protest ever

  • Pictures please!

  • The Times getting the scoops

    • Kwarteng went for victory drinks with hedge fund managers after his budget, promising to “double down”

    • Truss has banned Charles from speaking on climate change and told him not to attend COP27, & he’s briefing against her. Relations between them have broken down after just 2 weeks
