Plywood splinters are way worse in my opinion.
Glass rarely gets stuck and never really goes manky. It’s usually more like a really shallow paper cut.
My hands are trash obviously but glass isn’t as bad as you’d think. -

Does anyone want these sheets of 1mm stainless - 963 x 490 with a 33mm downturn on the long edge?
It took the manufacturer 3 attempts to deliver without them getting damaged in transit so I now have 2 spare. 1 is damaged on the downturn, the other is damaged on 2 corners.I was going to use them on an outdoor pizza kitchen, but can't see that happening for a while.
Free if you can collect from SE6.

I have what was originally about a 15mm shard of glass that is has been stuck in my thumb for about 5 years! It broke at some point and is now 2 shards that are about 10 mm apart under my skin, they slowly move around. I am hoping one day they will poke through the skin and I can remove them, they bloody hurt every now and then.

Ha, sounds grim. A good few years ago I got a glass shard in my hand shortly before going on holiday with friends, one of whom was a student doctor. Kitchen table surgery was performed using a scalpel made from a disposable razor and vodka for sterilisation. He then superglued me up. One of the neatest scars on my hands tbf.

More testing. I've learned that I'm going to have to put much more effort into cleaning the screen beforehand. In my defense I cleaned it in the garden in the dark.

I tried once but it bled like hell and I couldn't see where I wanted to cut.

I have a pencil lead in the tip of my ring finger if it’s any conciliation? Been there about 30yrs at a guess ;)
Roundup of other spicy workshop accidents?
I once pulled a 25mm long sliver of steel cable out of a colleagues eyeball with a pair of needle nose pliers. That was horrible, worse than bloody stuff somehow.

Fucking hell. Did he go blind? And why didn't he go to hospital?

Urghhhh!!

I've had a few visits to the West London Eye Hospital for paint or hot metal fragments. Two finger tips in carpentry machines, fortunately still have most of the meat on them. Cut my hands open a few times with the scars to prove it! Some were drinking accidents 🤪

When someone’s in your workshop screaming you do the thing and get that shit out before it gets worse..
He went to small injuries later that day and got drops. Don’t work together any more but he didn’t go blind. -

Fingertips scare me. I’ve come close way too many times using the table saw.

I know that you don't need me to tell you that push sticks are your friend.
-
• #2094
Oh of course I use a pusher but I have done stupid things in the past.
I’ve also had close calls with the chop saw when it occasionally grabs an offcut and does wild things(yes all our guards work and are in place).
All good fun. -

It only takes a moment inattention, usually tiredness plays a part. I try to remind myself regularly about the dangers. The hand tools can be just as bad as the machines though!

I even managed to shit myself with a track saw. I hadn't set it up properly at all and was rushing. Blade grabbed the track somehow and properly lurched towards the hand that was steadying the track.

One simple thing I always check myself over is making sure the sharp things are pointed away from the hands or body. Especially chisels, knives and screwdrivers.

About 10 times a day. I prob bleed a couple of times a week as usually the splinters are so fine they don’t draw blood. Most of the time I kinda know if I’m gonna cut myself while doing something silly but most of the shards are essentially invisible they sneak up on you. It might sound weird but cos of the amount of pressure I know to apply, compared with the size of the splinters I kinda know how far I can push it without doing any real damage.
Now that autumns here I wear overalls but getting a shard down your shoe cos it’s summer and you’re wearing shorts isn’t much fun.
I’m that guy people call on at parties when someone smashes a champagne glass..
