  • With the fat legs?

  • Oooh, could be interested - would love to see some pics, plus let me know what you'd want for them and where you are for collection! Cheers

  • Thanks man but def a bit too much. Literally need something to go on a shelf... Cheers

  • Cool, not at home today but will sort pics & think about a price over the weekend

  • Yup. Legs filled with kiln dried sand.

  • Renovated a pair of 70's speakers. Nothing special but suitable first project.
Kef type low/mids and peerless tweeter. Totally rebuilt the crossover (replaced prev. old components), new cables and binding posts and some green spiritland inspired paint.

  • Nice job, are you happy with the results?

I don't get out much so I'd not heard of Spiritland until I picked up a compilation from Mr. Bongo that's been compiled by Miche who has apparently been working at Spirtland for years.

  • Found a passive pre amp.

  • Thanks. Yeah they sound pretty good for casual listening. Def. better now with new caps etc.
Haven't been there yet but love the concept of listening bars and venues like Spiritland.

  • I've got a potentially simple question which I can't seem to find a simple answer for.
My current amplifier has two pairs of outputs, for bi-wired speakers, which match my current speakers. The new speakers I'm looking at only have two terminals each - what's the best way to solve this? Do I just use one set of outputs? Or do I use both outputs and combine them so two wires go to each speaker input? I hope that all makes sense and someone has an answer!

  • Have a trawl through the classifieds. Someone had a pair of AVI Nu-neutrons for 150 notes, which is a steal. These are really excellent speakers.

  • Bi-wiring is sometimes bypassing a crossover, sometimes not. A crossover is a filter which makes sure only the frequencies you want a driver to play reach the driver. If you are bi-wiring you need to either separate those prior to the driver (treble and bass) or have a crossover that can achieve that with 2 amp inputs.

Unless you can set radically different power ouputs to each of your amp channels it won't be working either since a bi-amped setup would be providing say 25w to the tweeter and 250w to the bass as an example since the bass driver requires a lot more power.

What you might have is outputs that are supposed to be used for a second zone.

You can also choose whether you filter the small (pre-amp signal) or the post amp (power) signal.

These days you can run a dsp and pair of class d mono amps strapped to the back of the speaker and bi-amp just about anything. It's the working method for most modern powered monitors.

  • It's on my map to give a try now. Missed out on Danny Krivit tickets next month though.

  • Spiritland's system is great but they never turn the volume up loud enough to appreciate it.

  • I have a rega planar 3 that’s been sat in it’s box for a while I could get rid of. RB300 tonearm and had the motor upgrade done a few years ago. Can take some pics if you’re interested.

  • Easiest solution is to run one set of cables from one set of outputs.

Next easiest is to run two sets of cables from both outputs and find a way to terminate both into the single set of speaker terminals. But I doubt this will have any appreciable benefit over the first solution, so I'd just do that one.

  • Not been to Spiritland, but do go to Brilliant Corners, which I guess is similar. Last went for my birthday this year, and I'm of an age where eating a vegan Japanese tasting menu whilst the Wu Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M. tinkles out of a pair of McIntosh driven Klipschorns at a pleasant volume is a good thing.

  • And they haven't treated the space acoustically. Just a big concrete room with a blanket pinned to the back wall.

  • Hi mate - thanks for the reply, I think from a quick glance at recent sale prices etc this is most certainly out of my budget! Cheers

  • Haven't been to Spiritland for a while now as I'm not living in London anymore. The first time I went it was in Curtain Road, very cool. Had some great nights at both venues. It can be particularly good when there's a tasty guest playing.

  • Bit of amp advice needed - after a 5 year hiatus from having speakers in the living room due to a small child I've taken a pop on some Fyne 302s, wondering if anyone has any experience with them & what sort of amp would work well? Probably looking at s/h options & adding a Chromecast for most things, think I have an old arcam black box DAC in the loft which could be added as another option - any tried & trusted solid gold bargains around - trying to keep the budget under £200, ta!

  • No worries! Not sure what they go for these days but it’s from the 80s so nowhere near the price of the current gen model.

  • Can’t help with the amp suggestions but assume you’ve already bought the 302s?

I’m literally about to sell mine boxed in mint condition…

  • Ha, yeah - ex demo bargain, I'm sure I can find something to make them work.

Cambridge audio outlet on eBay have the 20% deal on, they have some refurbished axr models that look interesting
