  • captain fantastic - a family living in the wilds of the pacific northwest have to face the 21st century when an unexpected event happens in their life. a great film, well worth a watch and some great comic moments

  • Something Wild

    Great film, incredible soundtrack

  • Any suggestions for something dumb and fun for a Saturday evening? Obscure 80s/90s action perhaps?

  • Dark Angel

Weird sci-fi action bollocks with Dolph Lundgren.

Not seen since the 90s myself but am keen for a rewatch.

  • That sounds like a laugh! By the way, if you've not seen Stone Cold (as recently covered by WHM), that's well worth a watch. Absolutely ridiculous.

  • Cube is also one of the inspirations, perhaps not officially?

But people waking up stuck in an area with lethal traps...well welcome to the Cube.

I thought saw 1&2 were pretty good, after that they series didn't work for me anymore :(

  • Cube was mint.
    It also spawned a franchise.
    2 and Zero
    Don't remember either being good
Zero is a prequel and more behind the scenes IIRC.

  • What spooky films have people been watching? 'tis the season after all.
I just watched Apostle. Some pretty blatant influences, about half an hour too long and pretty unpleasant. Better than I was expecting over all. It did just make me want to rewatch The Wicker Man and have a much better time though.

  • I watched Amulet recently and quite liked it.

  • I've not heard of this, will add it to the list. Cheers!

  • I am watching Werner Herzog's version of Nosferatu, kinda odd and spooky.

  • kinda odd

Yep, that sounds like Herzog alright. I'll add that to the list as well!

  • Definitely going to be checking out the Hellraiser remake. Am guessing that’ll be on Disney+ (lol) very soon.

Speaking of which, there is a BFI horror series that has some Clive Barker. Going to go and see Nightbreed (which will be the first time) at the Southbank. Can’t wait.

  • New Hellraiser on Dismal+ means the lead Cenobite is now a Disney princess

  • I also still really rate The Orphanage, and The Babadook too.

  • Anyone seen Possum? Reading about it, I think I’ll leave it!

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6081670/

  • Why because sinister or because low user rating?

  • It just sounds hideous. Like an especially traumatic Inside Number 9. Alun Armstrong is probably particularly terrifying. Hadn’t actually realised it’s not reviewed that well.

I’d heard about it before but recently saw it recommended to Limmy on one of his Twitter posts asking for horror tips. There was loads of good stuff in the thread, but I’ll never find it now (/CSB)

  • Sounds like something I need to see!

  • Any good Crime Thriller recommendations? Preferably recent but i'm sure there's plenty of great stuff from the past i've missed (no need for Michael Mann entries). Seems like the genre has lost popularity these days.

  • Older, but Inside Man is good
    Spike Lee I think

  • I still think Anything for her is one of the best thrillers I've seen. Yet I never meet anyone who's seen it. I know it's French, but still.

  • If forrin is allowed I would recommend El secreto de sus ojos or El Aura.
I also really liked Michael Clayton.
    Or the Ghost Writer.

  • Yeah i'm a fan, think it's actually on 'Great!' movies on free TV this week.

  • Thanks i'll check that out. The French do some great Thrillers, i should do some revisits
