@PeteJChurchill cheers for this! It is only in relation to off-road riding that I regret living south of the river…
Has anyone done the Hot Chilee off-road London -> Brighton? Are there any better routes/diversions/things to see? Planning on doing it next Friday

There's loads of nice gravel routes South of the river

I’ve found a couple good ones don’t get me wrong, maybe it’s just the bias and ease of access of going out through Epping and Lee Valley that means I tend to see more north London routes being suggested
Have you got any you could share? I’ve got a 100km route starting from Crystal Palace that I’ve yet to try but found through a YouTube video, looks good

Whereabouts are you based? Most of mine head out of Walton on Thames or Kingston direction.
There's a selection below but if you scroll through my RWGPS there's loads more

Just rode it. V good. I had big slicks on, but would have preferred knobbly tyres. Duck under the fence at KFC and find a path, good luck

Heads up for anyone planning to do the Downs Link - there's a section of works on it between the A264 and Fuflord's Road near Itchingfield. It was fenced off, but the barrier at the north end of the section had been pulled down. Lots of hardcore on the route. It was rideable, wasn't pleasant, but can be done.

Anyone tried lapping around Battersea Power station? Looks like Regent's inner circle on google maps

Does anyone have suggestions for a one or two night weekend camping route, that's a train journey from London? For road bikes.
Thought there was a thread along these lines recently but I can't find it at the minute.
Edit: here it is https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/365987

Did you try it?

There's tonnes of street furniture and traffic calming on it from street view and parts of it are pedestrianised so I wouldn't think it's an appropriate loop for laps.

Shame. Would have been a good one mid commute for me

Hey gang, anyone got a decent roads only route from London to Margate (or close enough to that I can rejig)? I'm going to ride it from North London over Christmas and lots of the routes I've found so far seem to go on trails / offroad sections and I can't work out how passable they are - I'm after a fastish road only route, but off busy roads as far as poss. Cheers!

You could take some ideas from each to make a moderate version. Main this is what you are willing to put up with - either side of Strood / Rochester is about as bad as cycling gets, which is why the bumpy version goes so far south as most lanes within 10/15 south of there are awful awful awful. But to be honest the bumpy version is a great ride, and road only (if you discount the seawall after Reculver to Birchington)

Thanks very much, appreciated - I'll give those a peruse over the weekend. I've ridden a bit down near Strood and Rochester so I know what you mean! A few rides I've found cover that seawall section from Reculver onwards - how paved and rideable is it? I'm not expecting 40kph, but is it decent and safe enough to maintain a reasonable pace on a paved surface, as I'll be on road bike?
-
• #1270
Oh yeah totally. They actually repaved it a few years back, it's just a little rough due to the expansion gaps but yeah it's all paved or concrete. TBH if you get a nice westerly you can definitely get up to 40kph there!

• #1271
Excellent, good to hear and thanks for the intel!

Bumpy lanes version:
I'd change this to Lewisham>>>Chislehurst>>>Crockenhill>>>Knatts to cut off a few KM

I know. sorry its been done ALOT. but I cba to go through all the pages. Does anyone have a tried and tested London > Cambridge > London route on road? pref a loop. Thanks
-
• #1274
Not a loop but do it one way then in reverse. I used it as a fixed friendly ride.
-
• #1275
Done this a few times, not a proper loop, more like half a loop?
Whole bunch of gravel routes out of north London I've collected over the years here: https://www.komoot.com/collection/1747558/-north-london-gravel-routes?ref=undefined
They're a mix of ones I've worked out, NLDs, Heales' shop rides and a few others I've picked up randomly.
