Correct, that's why some sort of duct would help as you can ensure that doesn't have tight corners.
Other option is router in the left I guess, but there's no plugs up there and it's dusty/hot.
The ONT is probably okay being a bit warm. Maybe run power over Cat5 with some splitters over the existing cable?
Getting the line run to a different pole is likely to be hard. I think that needs a network planner rather than the Openreach engineer that turns up deciding to do it.

There is actually a pole at the back of our house, which clearly served our property once and would be more suitable. It currently serves a row of adjacent houses. Looking at the BT site they have full fibre available too, so I can only assume it's possible from that pole, but I know they wouldn't be keen as it's in a school ground so have to do it out of hours and get special permission etc.
