Tbf decent roads in UK. They resurfaced the IOW recently and it was a joy to ride around.

Friend reached out that they wanna get out of London for a short ride, never done anything like it before. Gave them the gravel bike and went for a spin around the Thames River path past Woolwich, and did a few adventure rounds around Crossness nature reserve. They loved it, "Can we go again next weekend?", and considering buying a gravel bike.

The Space Chicken has a 2/2 track record of showing non-cyclists how much fun it can be!

My sister is looking at buying a Canyon Grizl for, well gravel, but also touring with a rack.
She has an Ultimate CF as well and wants to be able to use her 700c wheels with 35 or 28mm tyres on the Grizl for touring. In her size, the Grizl comes with 650B and takes 50mm.

Am I correct in thinking that a 700c wheel with 35s should fit fine on it?

Canyon states the Grizl is designed around one wheel size only. Whether that's practically the case, I dunno. I would shoot them an email about it, though they will probably recommend you don't.

I just did some more googling and owners have fitted 700c 37mm tyres. But my sister didn't actually check that it has rack mounts! Looks like only the Alu version does.

Anything else in the running?

I think I'm going to go back and try and refine the brief. I think she has found a way to justify a gravel bike, which I'm all for. Just need to check exactly what her priorities are.

Sure. I’ve got an Ultimate and just bought a Standert, maybe the Bokeh could be a good option bit cheaper as alu.
Does the Ultimate have disc brakes?

700 x 35 is about 692mm in diameter. 650 x 50 are about 684mm so she would almost need an additional centimeter of clearance under the fork crown and in the bb area. While that might work this could introduce toe overlap. My other half rides an xs Cannondale Slate also designed specifically for 650b and it was a revelation for her as a smaller rider.
If I was her I would give the 650b wheels a try.

The bokeh can take both, isn’t that the best for this scenario?
I’m assuming that’s the case on smaller frame sets too.

I am just saying that for my girlfriend 700c wheels beyond road bike tire size didn't make a lot of sense because of her height. So 650b isn't only another trendy wheel size it can actually have benefits for smaller riders.

Sorry I thought I was in agreement. Get 650b but also use 700 from the other bike when/ if needed.

I left my wife's fairlight secan bike on 650b I think it feels nicer than 700. Looks better for sure.

Don’t get me started. Finding value anywhere seems nigh on impossible.
Availability is still pretty poor in my recent experience.
