On the 6a, how do I stop Google randomly suggesting shit like "x has a new single out" and "Trek recalls some stupid fucking handlebar" and stuff like that?

App notifications
Google News, slide to 'No'
Seems to be working for me.Used as each time I moved from household wifi to cellular network there was a deluge of notifications.

I wake up and there's a scroll list of fucking notices. No thanks mate. Bye bye

Hold on any notification and get options such as default, silent and fuck off.

After watching a few reviews etc I don't think I'd actually gain much and my current phone is in good condition so I'm going to hold off I think and wait for maybe a smaller Nothing Phone in the future

Currys trade in is crazy..
It says my Pixel 5 is worth £190 + an extra £100 if i buy a 6a. So a 6a for £109..

Yep, I did a comparison on gsmarena and there's really not much in it bar a much larger battery which would be nice but not a deal sealer. Plus I really like the form factor of the 4a, sits in my hand nicely and I can reach anywhere on the screen easily with my thumb
-
• #22110
Yep and remember larger battery doesn't mean more battery life as the new tensor chip is hungrier
-
• #22111
Is it? I found my 6 to have the best battery life that I can remember in a smartphone I've owned.

Does anyone use the google photos feature where you sync them to the cloud and it deletes from your device. Can you still view thumbnails on your phone and it just downloads full images as required or do you need to go somewhere else to see the full images? What about attaching to whatsapp or the forum or whatever? Can you just browse on your phone and attach or do you first of all need to find it on google photos and download it and then attach?
Cheers
-
• #22113
Yep. That's how it works, just redownloads. I thought it was automatic these days?
-
• #22114
Not sure the delete from device part is default.
I have to re-download when I log into photos on my PC but they seem to be "there" on my phone.

Cheers. I'm trying to work out if I can get away with only 128GB with a Pixel 6.
-
• #22116
I'm sure you can
-
• #22117
I hope so because I ordered one last night. May need a bit of housekeeping to get down from the 300GB+ that is in use on my current phone.

Two attempts to book a battery replacement via the website have failed for me. The first wasn't their fault - the shop in Bank station was closed due to the station being closed for a tube strike, but they didn't feel the need to move the booking.
I expect they simply don't have the part, but if that's the case I'd rather they told me that than radio silence.
The second time they just flat out refused to believe I'd booked, despite the confirmation email etc. so the shop didn't have the part.Emailed customer service 4 days ago, nothing.

Any other Pixel 6a users?
Having trouble with the GPS?
I think I have made this better by changing the battery optimisation settings for Maps.
Settings ... Apps ... All Apps ... Maps ... Battery ... Unrestricted
I haven't done any very formal comparisons, but my feeling is that the location is pin pointed immediately that I open maps now, rather than taking time to get a fix and determine location.
You could do the same for any other location based apps you wish to make more snappy.
You could even write a tasker (or other automation system) script to turn this on when you open an app or start a ride or whatever, turning it off again afterwards.
If this is a fix, then the culprit was indeed the battery optimisation in A12/13, rather than a HW issue with the Pixel 6A.
You'd get £114 against a 6a with a pixel 2 with currys
