I think it's the case with any hobby really. You'll always have people who seem to take more joy in the products used or the process followed than the actual result. I've gotten into music production over the past few years and I'd say 95% of the stuff that people post about is "Hey I just bought a new x", as opposed to "Hey I just made this". I do game development stuff as a hobby which in fairness is a bit better in terms of showing actual results, but there's still a huge amount of x engine/framework/language is better than y shite that goes on instead of actually talking about the design/development side of things.
