Really appreciate that,thank you.
The left adapter, cause my eyelet is behind the axle.

What's the name (trade or otherwise) of the PVC backed polyester type material that Ortlieb and the like are made from and it's it possible to DIY weld to any strength, or does it need to be stitched and sealed? I'm sure I actually have some in a box somewhere, but probably not enough for what I have in mind.
Edit: Cordura! That's the shit

Cordura
I think the Ortlieb stuff is tarpaulin. Cordura is more like a fabric.

Maybe you're right, a had the roller classic plus in mind when I wrote that which are a slightly different material to the regular.

Now reading more about it the current might be coated Cordura but they started by using truck tarpaulin.
As for welding, it might be possible but quite hard on a complex shape. I did a mudflap from tarpaulin and welded 2 straight edges using the heat strip on a vacuum sealer. It was messy, kept sticking to the strip and needed about 10 passes to get through.
Some people use modified soldering irons.Cool article about Ortlieb, what they use is called high frequency welding.

Any really small tool roll's out there?
something that goes between the saddle rails kinda thing?
Thinking something Boa based could wrap around rails and bag so it could fit snug/jammed.Only needs to take a tube, patch kit, PB swiss bike tool and spare contacts (and maybe some nitril gloves)
Syncros makes something interesting, but only for their saddles and requires some bolts.

The material available here looks quite similar, and is weldable with a specialised iron. I've been wondering if it's possible to make a welded framebag with it https://iron-raft.co.uk/shop/

I have no use for it but I want it.

Is anyone using panniers with the Pelago Rasket? I just went to install mine but they don't fit. The horizontal bar the panniers clip on to is too narrow, even with the clips on the pannier adjusted to the narrowest they'll go. It looks like the small Restrap panniers would work but ideally I'd find something a bit cheaper! Any ideas?

This maybe. I like it.

Which bags are you using at the moment?
-
• #1065
If you're using panniers made for the rear that might be the cause.
I've been able to fit both Orlieb and Carrradice front panniers on my rasket and pelago rack. -

Hey thanks for this. I’m using some Altura panniers which I’ve had for years (on a rear rack). I’d never thought about there being a difference between front and rear panniers!
-
• #1067
You're welcome.. I think most rear panniers are twice the size of front panniers. The Orliebs we have are around 12 liters per side and the Carradice 10 liters per side.

Correct - I've got Ortlieb City panniers and the front are 12L and the rears are 20L. The crossbar with the mounting equipment is less than 2/3 the width on the front than the rears.
I've had no problem putting them on a Pelago Rasket rack (also seen people running Restrap panniers on there too).
I even managed to find a picture!

What the forum approved front rack that will also take a basket, with a cargo load of around 10kg. More is nicer but don't want to rack to be too heavy. Must also have ability to mount a dynamo too at the front.

Pizza Rack I'd say.
Or if you want something a bit bulkier, Surely Nice Rack (or the various versions, Blackburn etc)

Anyone know someone who would be willing to replace the fraying material on my bag straps?
Bit fiddly but seems a shame to throw the bag away. A local bag repair place re-sowed the existing material but it frayed again… happy to pay/post! In London.

So, after rambling in the bikepacking thread, I'm seriously considering adding a rear rack to my audax bike. Something like a Tubus Fly, mounted on standard eyelets. I'll be using micro-panniers (I'll probably have to make them myself), and I don't think the load will exceed 5 kg (and will probably bit a fair bit less).
Will this change the supposedly magical ride quality of my high-end steel frame? Because of either the weight itself, or the fact that the rack itself might stiffen the rear triangle (not sure if that can actually play a role!).
Here are the tubing specs, for those with a lot of framebuilding experience :
- Top tube 28,6mm - Velospec 75 - 0.7 x 0.4 x 0.7 mm
- Seat Tube 28,6mm - Velospec 75 - 0.85 x 0.6 mm
- Down tube 38,1mm - Velospec 75 - 0.7 x 0.4 x 0.7mm
- Head tube 44 mm - CrMo CNC
- Chain Stays - CrMo - 425 mm length
- Seat Stays - CrMo - 10 x 0.9 mm
Here's what it looks like, except I've had standard rear rack eyelets brazed on the dropouts and at the top of the seatstays (and I have a generic carbon fork). As you can see, the seatstays are very thin.

Always a good excuse to add more things to your basket, make the postage worthwhile.
