Double memory dredge here:
1: there was a band whose lead singer was known for climbing the rigging at gigs. Saw them do it at Glastonbury once, 90's. Blur?
2: there's a TV series where at the start of each episode/first episode of each series, a standalone character gets killed off. Something big, lots of seasons. House, Dexter, that kind of period.
