  • Saw that as well, super cool, Karel Sabbe seems so dedicated but relaxed 👍

Also found this one with Courtney Dauwalter very inspiring -

  • New shoes day.

Very nice and after getting measured up properly I've gone up a size.
Nice wide but snug fit 1st run they feel v good

  • Looking for a cheap watch with a lap split timer – can anybody recommend one?

My dad is looking for something but has only found a stopwatch on a lanyard so I thought I’d ask in the hope he doesn’t need to spend megabucks.

Looked through this thread but only found £100+ offerings from Garmin so far, thanks in advance.

  • Think decathlon do stopwatch as a wrist watch type thing for about a 10er.

  • If it’s just a stopwatch he’s after then almost any digital watch from the last 30yrs will do it.

    Casio F-91W, £10 from Argos?

  • Missing running very much atm. Still on path to recovery with my itb (still feeling numbness a lot of the time) so trying to channel the energy into physio and rehab but it's so far from the same kind of satisfaction and mental health release!

  • Cheers @Rich_G and @duncs that's helpful.

Should have been clearer, after something that can record multiple lap splits and although my Casio W86 has a split timer, I'm not sure it can hold more than one split.

  • Ah, I’d plump for something like a Forerunner 45 (or 55, or 735. Anything a generation or so old and entry-mid range). Should be able to find one for £50 or so on eBay in good nick.

  • Nice wide but snug fit

I like 1080's, but yea the new ones are quite snug (the v12 ones are as well), I don't really love it but got used to it quickly, or maybe they stretched a little bit 💁

  • I did help out at one of the checkpoints during this year's Berlin Wall Race (a 100 mile ultra that takes place every year).

This was such a blast, an amazing community of runners (and volunteers), really brought tears to my eyes how even the last people crossing the finish line (about 29 hours after the start) were applauded frenetically 🙂

It's a crazy race - part of it goes right through the city, including Kreuzberg party areas etc. - but then you do really go out in the boonies as well, jogging past wild boars in pitch black woods..
..definitely recommend if you're in the area next year 👍

  • I've got a pair of Walsh PB fell shoes to pass on, size 10, bought second hand off eBay to try for size. They come up quite snug so I think I'll need 10.5's or so.

Any way in good nick - £15 posted anyone?

  • Anyone get sore arms on the long run? Training for my first marathon and ran my longest run this morning (25km). Legs felt fine but my arms were killing me. Any advice?

  • Yeah I might be interested. Can you send me a photo of the uppers and the soles please?

  • I've got some Nike Pegasus 38 in white with pink bits on the sole that aren't really working out well with my feet.
I've tried them for less than 100 miles, anyone interested for £40 posted?

  • Where is the soreness?

Due to being mildly corpulent I sometimes got some chafing where the lats and biceps rub. I get the same thing in hour+ long swims so I'm used to putting a bit of bodyglide there to stop it.

  • It's more muscle soreness rather than chaffing. Shoulders/bicep area. I have cyclist arms so not sure is it just weakness.

  • Do you do any upper body exercise at all?

  • I do running specific strength work but there's not much upper body at all no

  • It's probably just muscle soreness from being asked to do more than they are used to then.

If you can add some specific strength work in for arms/shoulders, and press ups are probably enough, then that might help.

  • Nice one, will do

  • XC Spikes for sale unused, Would suit someone 8 -8 1/2 UK

  • Nice one - will do asap

  • Thanks again to those of you that replied to my beginner questions further up the thread!

I did get an older, second hand Apple Watch (series 4, Nike version) and I'm very happy with it as it tracks my runs nicely it seems, and provides the info that's relevant to me right now (using either the NRC app or the built in "training" app, both work well for me).

For further beginner questions I have found the FAQ in the running subreddit a great resource: https://www.reddit.com/r/running/wiki/faq/ - for example the writeup on proper running form has helped me a lot.

  • Not that anyone has asked but marathon training going well, have a wobble every time I see a speed session as the paces look quite intimidating but seem to be hitting most of them, even the long runs are a lot faster than previous marathon training targets, but still easy enough.

I didn’t quite hit my target time in my 10k tube up race a few weeks ago but was pleased with 36:40 (the target was 36:20), I’ve got a half marathon this weekend and the target is 1:20:30, which would be the best part of a 3 minute pb so we shall see, I’ve got a fresh pair of cheat shoes ready to help me on a bit!

  • From my perspective these are incredibly quick times. Well done and good luck this weekend.
