Been meaning to buy one of these for years. Aldi version is spot on for pre/post cross. As its cheap I won't care that it gets covered in mud, sweat and Morgan blue race oil.

No more Stanmer Park as season opener? that hill was a fairly horrific way to get back into racing.

Word on the street is that the new venue is a worse hill. cries

It seems the race organisers in Brighton are having lots of challenges with the local council and are struggling to get events approved.
-
• #9363
Same score over this way on council parks. It would be a big loss if racing was forced to move out of towns and cities onto private land further into the sticks.
-
• #9364
Thankfully it seems to be a Brighton-specific problem for the L&SE League at the moment, although the trend over the past ten years is definitely away from public parks to private land.

I stopped organising a few years ago because I couldn't sensibly get any public parks in South London. More and more LA's flat-out just say no or ask for a huge "damage deposit" for bike races. Whereas a winter Parkrun can trash the grass for free....
Crystal Palace park has been used since then however which is great.

But a huge payment was demanded for damage to the grass post-event, specifically from the star feature. I believe a less costly resolution was eventually agreed.

Nuts innit. There's no long term damage to the grass from a CX race

LCCA have a dossier that shows course recovery over a period of months that they routinely share with potential venues.
I still remember the damage that was done to Addington Park in one of the events you organised there when it rained, it was a quagmire after the event. A month later and you'd never have known it had ever happened.

Yeah they're more into bike lanes than bike racing down here. No more Big Dog no more cx stanmer or happy valley and Mat from Eastbourne triathlon told me they're struggling to get hold of Friston forest again despite being absolutely no issues last year. Hove Park crits has scaled back and no crits at Preston Park this summer. Leisure centre based events aren't happening either. ๐๐

What is the go to mixes condition tyre these days? I've run a combo of the michelin jet power and mud over the last couple of seasons and really like them...but they are so soft that i get maybe 3 or 4 races out of a rear tyre. I can't afford that attrition rate

Vittoria Terreno Mix if tubeless. 31mm if you have wideish rims and need them to be UCI compliant.
Otherwise your favourite Challenge tread (Baby Limus up north, Griffo down south) in open tub format with latex tubes.
Any chance you could measure the rear clearance? I want to know what I could fit in with 650s. Cheers
