• Good call, thanks. Will look into those, good price!

  • Ah yes, pro one are what I meant. Has anyone commuted on the 5000s? I wished they’d do Hardshells in tubeless.

  • Spesh Roubaix 30/32?

  • Thanks. Wasn’t aware of those, but good reviews so I’ve taken the plunge.

  • What are people using to undo/tighten removable valve cores? I really can't figure out what tool works.

  • I use aliexpress copy of park tools VC-1

works fine, you want to borrow?

  • No I need to just have something that works. Been using this tiny spanner I have, V fiddly.

Been teaching my son how to fix a P******* in prep for longer commutes next term, not exactly going well, and I thought I might try sticking sealant into the innertubes.

  • Thanks for the offer though!

  • I use the valve cap which comes with muc off valves, it has a hole in it that fits over the valve core

Ah but if you're using inner tubes you may not have that I guess

  • Also use the muc off one, but have a few of these too:

  • OK thanks all. I have a valve that came with a kind of extra lockring thing with a notch in it that might actually be for this. Only just figured it out. Also got one of those things ^^ but it's made of plastic and worked only once before rounding.

  • Spoke key

This isn't too silly as I have one of those crappy multi-size spoke keys, long since ignored, that is bound to have the right size notch on it.

If it looks like this, then yeah :-)

Did you use the slot on the outside or the hole in the middle?

  • Yep. The round ones that come in unbranded kits.

  • Stans make a really nice anodised barrel style valve core tool. Its super nice to use.

I tried a few of the cheapy plastic ones which all rounded after the first use.

  • I use this one, it works

  • I have Park one, Muc-off valve ones and numerous plastic ones, including one that I found on the An Turas Mor trail (how fucking closely was I watching the trail?!) and they all do the same thing.

  • s made of plastic and worked only once before rounding.

They are the size and strength they are to stop you over-gronking on installation. That inevitably means they're too weak to get a valve out once it has sat being simultaneously corroded and glued by sealant for a few weeks.

  • Or a few years...

  • Added to "you're doing it wrong" list.

  • I usually leave it 9 months between sealant top ups, but a little grease on the threads stops it seizing in

I don't overtighten it to begin with mind

  • +1 for the new GP5000 in 32. Can’t tell much a difference from my previous gen 5000, but going up 4mm does make a difference.

They are ££££, but upside is the old GP are now discounted

  • It’s a shame they don’t do the 32 with tan walls
