I think it’s to do with canti stud length but I’ve never noticed it making a difference. Something about pre 2008 vs post 2008

I was taking some cane creek cantis off an old bike to clean up. after some beer, in fading light. when i go to put it all back together i realise one side had a washer under the bolt above the arm which has a bit that slides between the stud and the arm and the other is missing. How important is this? is there spares?
