I would try Travelex or the like, John Lewis sometimes have quite good rates too.
Or the Post Office, not sure if any good though a la "desk hours"

Googling "best currency exchange rate" or something similar should give you various sites that will let you compare rates for the exact amount you want to exchange. It's been years since I've done it but from memory there's a few places you can post the cash to that offer the best rates, or M&S generally used to have good rates.

I need to change some Canadian dollars to £s. Where is the best place to do this? Bank (who aren't super transparent about fees and are a pain to get to during "desk hours") or currency exchange place? Or somewhere else?
