it just not optimal
I think that it’s more this.
You’re also supposed to only use a flat top chain with xplr cassettes
But there’s definitely reports of folk mixing and matching and if being okay
It will probably work well enough but just won’t be absolutely perfect. The flat top chains have larger rollers so the eagle chain probably won’t mesh perfectly with the xplr cassette.
Only one way to find out… do it

Cheers. This is the alternative but I might see if I can try it with a borrowed cassette first.

Flat top chain >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I posted this in the Groupset thread but nothing yet...
Am building up something (again) for riding around Epping and maybe a bit further afield with Ratio 12 speed conversion. In terms of cassettes, it recommends only an Eagle cassette but I'd like something with a closer ratio and my wheel is already XDR - great, I can use an XPLR cassette I thought...but no...apparently it's not compatible with Eagle derailleurs...or is it just not optimal?
I'm not super fussed about perfect shifting, it's 1x and for just hacking about.
