Sadly effective can mean spendy but the i'd recommend Zederna innersoles, shoe banana's if you can't get your shoes out in the sun (plus alternate shoes daily), smartwool socks and this stuff from Boots has been useful

As above wool and leather can't be beat for breathability IME.
