  • GSD are popular to be stolen out of all the cargo's, partly because there are so many of them, partly because there are so many that they are easy to shift (often look the same!), and partly I think a lot of folk who buy Tern, aren't bike people, their marketing is very geared toward non riders, and some of these folk are pretty naive. A nearly new £4-7k e cargo bike for sale sans its charger for 'only' £1500 seems like a good deal and probably legit to folk outside of 'bike guys'. I've had two in my shop, exactly this scenario, both were utterly embarrassed to the core that they had bought stolen.

  • There a lot around, it's true. I reckon I see 3 or 4 most days on my 6 mile round trip nursery run. The one's I've seen locked up, have used some ropey looking locks. Those folding ones that can be broken with a nut splitter make me shudder. But they pack nicely into a little bottle mount case.

Next for me will be GPS, but I forgot to ask them to enable the power port during the 6week check up, as it was pissing with rain and I just wanted to get away when dropping it off, then I forgot to call them. I've got it on bikeregister with the UV marking and microdot stuff.

  • This pitched up at work today.
    Fight Putin!

  • Yeah the head unit! Apparently battery theft is a big issue. Fully Charged (who we bought our Urban Arrows from) sent out an email a while ago saying that they're getting some security cage things for the batteries in at some point because they keep getting nicked.

  • I saw the battery cage thing on the UA Facebook group when I thought I was still getting a UA. Luckily on the GSD it's a bit caged in anyway. I'm sure a determined person could get at it even with my lock trick, but it's definitely not out in the open.

  • I've just heard from another UA rider I know that 2 guys tried to steal his Bosch head unit whilst he was riding, exactly the same as happened to my colleague last week. What's going on at the moment??

  • What exactly is the head unit and how come it’s so soughtafter to steal?

  • This thing.

It controls the motor and battery, so no head unit = no electric assist. For that reason it's easy to remove from the mount in the middle of the bars.

  • I'm not 100% sure why they're so sought after, they're less than £100 new so can't imagine they're worth much sold on. My theory is that the thieves are either trying to immobilise the bike by removing the electric assist, in the hope that the rider will leave it unattended so that they can steal it. That or they're hoping to find an unattended bike later on that they can cut the lock of and use the head unit to ride off with it. Both theories might be total bollocks though.

  • Might be for bikes that have already been stolen, without a head unit. As far as I know, Bosch don’t sell replacement parts directly and only through dealers so they must be hard to get hold of by any other means.

  • You can definitely buy the heads units seperately. Guess it saves spending the £90 though!

  • That actually makes a lot of sense.

  • Can I ask. Do you have insurance on top of the monthly retrieval service?

  • There’s been talk about trackers for e-cargos on this thread before, for a non electric cargo bike any options? AirTag? Just found out it’s CR2032 and not rechargeable and in theory lasts a decent time which was my biggest concern if it needed to keep being charged.

  • Anyone got instructions for assembling a MadJax box for a Bullitt that they could share?
My box has arrived without instructions and I can't work out how to do it.

  • Here's the video instructions, dm me your email and I can send you the pdf, you need both.

Edit - no need to message forgot I could just upload here.

  • If anyone knows of a Larry vs Harry frameset going, give me a shout

  • That looks great. What are the tyre clearances like?

  • What handlebars?

  • They look like Nitto bullmoose to me...

  • Yep nitto bull moose

  • Think I've comfortably run 1.75 on the back and 1.9 on the front

  • Damn. I'd hoped something like a schwalbe table top or Billy bonkers would fit in the back. Ah well
