• Nah, its a closed system within the shifter. All the circuit boards and switches are in little boxes glued shut :(

We need to get Bunny Huang up in this shit. Tell him how Shimano has succeeded in preventing us from reverse engineering their gear for more than a decade, and he'll be grinding through that epoxy and sussing those guts through a microscope faster than you can say 'fuck proprietary bullshit'.

  • Im 100% confident that I stumbled upon a guy who was making his own custom PCB's to connect into di2, and was selling them at about $50 a pop. Cant find it for the life of me. But its out there.

@hippy Im sure Shimano is collecting data on gear combos most used...etc, and carefully evaluates this data to bring to market the exact opposite of what people want :)

  • You say that but look at what I've run over the years.

28T was the biggest you could find and fit on mechanical SS cage DA, go long cage you could get their 32T, then 36T (actually that was SRAM, Shimano only do 34T unless you went to MTB kit), now I'm managing to stick 40 and 42T MTB cassettes into (long cage) road deraillers.

Maybe your shifters need a tinfoil hat? You read it here first....
