Good stuff. There’s an app called Best Coffee, nice way to find cafes in a new city.

In-laws are considering a Sage Barista Express. Certainly seems like a safe bet regarding a better quality result than their current machine. But is it actually feasible for a pair of 70+ year olds to operate? Or a bit too hands-on?
@Stonehedge you've got one right? Any opinions on that?

Sorry mate, we're precision brewer. (And love it).

I think should be okay as long as they’ve got the strength to tamp? It’s otherwise pretty easy to use once you’ve got the hang of it - it comes with good instructions.

Ah yes I remember now, my bad!
Have looked at those (and the Moccamaster) but can't really justify it while I've got my little v60 server set.

Thanks! I guess my apprehension was more around the more involved process in general compared to more push-button bean-to-cup machines.
They've just come over to visit and they're big fans of the coffee they get here. I fear they may pick up a machine that can provide great coffee but they're not necessarily a fan of the process to actually make it!

I'm looking forward to audiophile coffee drinkers snapping these up in the belief that DC power-heated water is somehow more flavour-supporting than water boiled using AC.

I enjoyed this one especially - his incredulity about various decisions the designers made make it worth a listen.

I bought my parents a Moccamster. It's great. I prefer the Sage though. Less fiddly to use and clean and with configurable parameters. I totally get the appeal of the Moccamster though, it makes good coffee and is smaller and looks better.

This definitely has it's place though, for self employed tradies who work out of their vans. Think someone on here has one in fact.

So far so good. Will update, but I'm just using it for filter at the moment. I'll try and gain access to my local coffee shop to see if I can run some espresso shots.

Is it better than just making a thermos of coffee at home in the morning though?
Seems to be one of those products that exists in compromise no-mans land

What’s going on with the sudden interest in the Makita coffee machine then? Only reason I ask is they’ve made it for maybe 5-10 years now and it suddenly seems to be all over the internet.

Espresso machine question. I've got an ecm mechanika that I've had for over a decade now, and it's been great, basic maintenance etc but no majors.
I've recently noticed that if i leave it on for several hours and try to make a coffee, it cuts off after less than ten seconds of extraction. If I turn it off for a bit and back on to get up to pressure its then fine. Any ideas? Seems like it gets too hot or something? Most days it just goes on for 30 minutes in the morning, so I don't run into the problem. -

To be fair it’s the second iteration.

I’ve got one, I deffo enjoyed having it. I use a flask now, but that means you’ve only got coffee if you’ve had the time to make it that morning.
There are plenty situations where just being able to throw some coffee and water in and get a fresh cup out is a lot more convenient than planning ahead and making a flask. -

James Hoffman video on it just dropped so I assume a load of people who weren't familiar with them now are

Aha, didn't spot it was a new version!

Yeah this - also, the amount of battery power required to make a wee cup!
-
• #23047
He's using a tiny 12v battery though, imagine most people would use a 5ah 18v.
-
• #23048
Yeah I'm sure I remember the old machine would do two cups on a 3AH 18V. Can't remember where I got that from, mind.
-
• #23049
6ah 18v for me. It deffo smashes through batteries tho.
Using a 2ah 12v is stupid tho. Almost literally never see 12v Makita gear on site.

Hi all,
Any interest in a La Pavoni Europiccola and a Gaggia coffee grinder ?
You'll find a sale post in the Classifieds section :-) here
It shouldn’t be. Have a little play with the screw that attaches it to the shower plate? It can be a bit finicky if tightened too closed. That looks quite coarse for that tight on the nice - have you tried recalibrating? I know they can reportedly wander a bit.
@JB have been moving house so haven’t had a chance to play as much as I’d have liked - still feels like more machine than I’ll ever get my head round, but guess that’s a good thing really!
Have some annual leave coming up where I’ll have a bit more leeway to experiment when I can face being wired all day from more than a few double shots in one morning.
