  • He's a brit who's been out in Germany for a few years. Bit of a quiet audax monster, won some race round Norway last year.

    https://vousden.me/

  • Anyone else getting @skinny vs Josh Ibbett vibes from this?

  • I wasn't commenting on the fact that there aren't many stories but the only one he uploads is him staring at his phone. Found that amusing. :)

  • How are you doing @PBoynton

  • I see. He's doing pretty well.

    That Norway thing sounds interesing...

    Lots of climbing
    ⛴ Inconvenient ferry timetables
😰 A 1,000 m switchback descent, including a 1 km tunnel with a 10% hairpin inside it… that had to be climbed again afterwards
    ⛽️ Extortionate petrol station food
    🚏 Camping in bus shelters
    🪦 Camping in graveyards
    🥵 Unbearable heat
    🥶 Unbearable cold
    🎭 Plentiful mood swings
🏔 The most beautiful mountain scenery I’ve ever seen

  • In what sense?

  • Ahh, one of us.

Added to my list. He's just behind the Aussie on the Russian track bike. Just to the east on smaller roads I presume.

  • Racing each other this early and not resting enough.

  • I raced Will Vousden last year in Norway (= he beat the s**t out of me). A nice guy, strong, very focused, hardcore.
When we were chatting at the start in Geraardsbergen:
"Where do you plan on having breakfast tomorrow morning?"
" Well, on my bike of course!"

  • Just waiting for lunch to arrive.

Not surprised Strassers route is rubbish. He posted on Facebook before the event a pic of him route planning. His screen was showing. I scrolled in. It showed a route through Cologne, which was always going to be shit as big city and hilly to the east.
If he'd had my route he'd have flown. Flat for hundreds of km and there was a tail wind.

Re main roads, maybe he never rides on them without a follow car.

He did know about the trackleaders archive. Someone told me that they told him about it!

Is he doesn't win its good for the sport as it shows that any pro can't just rock up they need to learn. Also he will need to do it again next year.

  • cheers Frank. good update. enjoy your tucker dude and roll on safe

  • Clearly. He's up front with the headbangers. Doing well.

  • I guess the "enough" will come in to play soon. If it wasn't enough they'll get caught. If they went hard enough to get a gap that's big enough to allow for their slow down as they fall apart, then it was enough. That's where it gets interesting.

  • That Norway thing - do you have a ride report? Was it good? His review makes it sound quite interesing.

  • I have lived for years across Europe from Italy to Spain from Spain to Germany and then UK since 2017.
Never been so scared as cycling in Birmingham.

Berlin (that probably isn’t Germany) was the safest place I have been cycled so far.

  • It's from the same organiser as the Race around The Netherlands. But this one is good :-). You could compare it a bit to the TransAtlanticway Race, but longer and tougher, with a few alpine-grade cols thrown in, and even more spectacular scenery. Only thing not to like is the cost of living in Norway.

I don't do reports, but there is https://youtu.be/aS75kgKNHT4
    and https://youtu.be/zwJGca__LbQ

  • I know Mr Wacker. I didn't realise he also had a Norway race (or I did but forgot as is more often the case now). Sounds like 2021 was the last running of the race but the route is still probably doable. https://www.adventurebikeracing.com/aroundnorway/

I'll have a look at those vids later. Thanks.

  • The two leaders have parted, AB route looks not the most direct?

  • Did you take that dirty border crossing?

  • It doesn’t look like it.

    I did tho..

  • No. It was a gravel.road but a legit crossing

  • Looks like you used the Hum crossing, same as KA. I used the more southerly one and there was the dodgy one in between.
