Assumed this was an English at first

What’s the forum approved “gravel bike most likely to get called a road bike”?
I pay off the MTB in 3 months time, so my diseased brain is already looking forward to replacing the gravel bike. I love my giant tcx, but I would like something that doesn’t have a press fit bottom bracket because they are stupid. Budget roughly 2.5k, don’t need clearance beyond 40mm, would prefer light and nippy over lots of mounting points and steel forks etc. Oh and needs to be eligible for cyclescheme.

Ribble CGR carbon https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-cgr-sl/

no way, that's some open mould ali express bongo bike with a bad logo slapped on
forum approved would be an Arkose, of course.

I’m like Liz Truss, challenging the orthodoxy of the elite establishment

• #25408
I do like the idea of a bongo bike though

Big bong energy.

That is so damn ugly!
-
• #25411
Sounds like you're describing a Contend / Domane (slick 40s will fit a Contend AR)
-
• #25412
But the video shows the living of the gravel bro life. And you can get it in a Hero build. One ride soundtracked by Kenny Loggins surely offsets any perceived ugliness and then some?
I guess you could get an Arkose though

Checkpoint

New Synapse has threaded BB, it's pricey though
-
• #25415
Checkpoint or domane check out, my mate squeezed 45c in his domane but they were too big really. I've never had to fix a synapse that wasn't at least slightly annoying to goes for any Cannondale really.

Trek? Do I look like Amey?
Domane does look like it fits the bell, not sure I want to give my money to the racist bike cop company tho.

• #25417
Sounds like you're after another CX bike
-
• #25418
A crocket?
-
• #25419
maybe a checkpoint ALR?
-
• #25420
Srsly tho Domane or Crockett doesent make sense with Checkpoint in the lineup.
More capable, more mounts, pretty much same to ride.
Like buying an Aethos over Crux.

There should be a forum roll call for these events.
Everyone turns up drunk wearing a shirt with ruffles and ok maybe not
But still, I need to break the Tripster so I can buy a new bike.

I've run 700x50mm and 650B 50mm tyres so I reckon 50mm is the threshold.
I've also fitted 700C x 2" tyres to the grrl's bike. So, basically, fuck knows. Everything should be metric but USA USA USA

I'd 100% go checkpoint, but if they want more "capable off but also good on road" the new domane is pretty damn good, bit less slack but still plenty of clearance for proper tyres, might end up with the daft bouncy steerers though, which some people like anyway.
