  • The fork is absolutely hench. Was hoping for twin and/or mid blade eyelets but can’t have everything.
Keeping it simple - boujie tyres, ergotecs and I guess a canti rack.

  • Those frames were really nice and understated… top quality and a good find

  • It’s scandalous how little it cost. Even after spaffing on petrol to go get it.
    There’s lots of nice details…

  • Tyres aren’t original but safe to say the bikes barely seen any action.

  • Anyone got some period correct black risers that would work with that Trek? Those skinny straights on there are a bit much.

Rode it around a bit today. For a bike that’s prob not really been ridden since new it’s set up pretty well. Fit is spot on, feels cushy.
DTH tyres and a Blackburn mtn rack on their way. Are gum grips acceptable with gumwall tyres or would that be awful? Spied some gum onzas that would be pretty nifty.

  • Got some 90s Tioga risers, free to collect e10

  • Nice polished XTR crank!

MAX mountain bikes are always good.

  • Nice!

Garbaruk now make new direct-mount narrow-wide chainrings for these XTR cranks.

  • Cheers it was fucked with heel rub so only way to go :)

  • Oh interesting 😎

  • Little bit of progress on the Trek.
Risers courtesy of @¡apesta!, odi float grips(same as esi but I’m brand loyal lol) and an original Blackburn mtn rack, looks like Dave Mellor is one of the few places still stocking it.
Seeing as a front rack would either be canti fit and/or a massive faff I thought I’d just stick my handlebar bag on instead. The panniers are actually my fronts but this will prob just be for day rides and the odd overnight so prob won’t ever be fully loaded.
Pedals, bottle cages and tyres then it’s done. I wanted period correct shimano DX but prices be wild so it’ll be polished v8s and restraps. Cages will be Elite Macan obviously. ;D

Serial number dates as mid 1992. All my karrimor luggage(I’ve got a full set minus saddlebag) is dated Feb 1993 on the labels. Satisfyingly contemporary.

  • Love the lithe Kona geo.

    Are those ceramic rims?

  • Love this. Aiming for something similar with my older shitter Kona, but got a front rack and the spacing is wider than my canti studs! Disaster.

  • I have some 1997 Avid single digit 2.0 (or 20?) v brake calipers. The springs for the arms are separate with no adjustment screws (think this changed in 1998). I snapped one of the springs last night and would like to replace all 4 of them with new. Anyone know if I can or where I can find the parts?

  • They are indeed - I took the Kona to Bike Park Wales on a slippery autumn day and the braking was surprisingly good. I don’t know why all rim brake rims aren’t coated.

  • Kona Hahanna pub bike now with unnecessarily tarty cranks.

  • Work in progress on this 1991 Diamondback Apex. First iteration was like this, originally built up for my girlfriend, but she didn't like the fit after all.
Need to remove the kickstand, get a wider-range cassette and bigger tyres (thinking about Maxxis DTH).
Unfortunately the mudguards are very old, bent and brittle so they will get ditched eventually.

  • Rad pub wagon.

I like the new darker tan wall DTH.

  • Anyone got a small to medium retro MTB to shift?

Friend is looking, he’s in SE London. Budget of about £150 so options will be limited!

I’m trying to steer him away from a £150 front suspension sports bike currently available brand new from Argos 😬

  • What break pads are you using out of curiosity? My personal experience of using ceramic coated rims hasn't been terrible, but not amazing either (using Swiss Stop green ceramic pads). Same bike, with same canti brakes, but normal alloy rims and standard Shimano pads brakes better...

I've been wondering about shelf life of ceramic rims specific pads, as the pads I've been using I believe were new old stock, maybe they dried out?

  • I've given up trying to help friends/colleagues with how to spend their money on bikes. People just don't listen, depressing! If people were voting like they buy their bicycles, then you'd end up with... Oh wait...
