  • @Po Nope.

    Did we cover this already?

  • Just poking fun. Thought his exploits were world famous by now.

  • I'm far too self-involved to pay attention to other people.

    Look at me!
    Look at me!

It was only because I read some of it the other night and saw LFGSS mentioned I asked.

  • YAL in pieces no doubt. Following this monumental snub he might pack it all in and buy a groupset.

  • Fixed gear? That shit will never take off.

  • How did you not recognise me from that one time we met at Wests across a packed table of forumers 4 or 5 years ago??!? Maybe I'll build up that geared bike after all :(

I hope you all enjoy the (edited) prose and ironic salutes

  • Oh, we have met?

Wait, 4-5 years ago. I wasn't going to Wests then was I? Think the last time (unless you count Ealing Beer Fest last week) was the 12th birthday. Was that at Red Lion?

I think you're confusing me for er that other guy.

  • Hmmmm I swear that someone said to me at the Red Lion (it could have been at a TNRC season closer or a random Wests from up to 6 years ago) "see that skinny south african guy over there in the corner, that's hippy"

  • I think I only did one TNRC and that was pheew um 12 years ago maybe. Roydon rings a bell. Is that even a place?

    Skinny and saffa, that's me!

  • Anybody on the Dark Peak Grimpeur from Marple next Wednesday?

Edit: Scrap that. Rail strikes/ticket prices mean I definitely won't be.

  • I quite fancy riding from South to North Wales and back when I have a week off later this summer. Does anyone know what Lôn Las Cymru is like, or have any route reccomendations? Preferably on road

  • I put this together in anger after having to bail on BCM. Long portions of it are near the BCM route but take quieter roads. I have NOT done this route but I reckon it would be fucking awesome and I do plan to do it at some point, although I haven't worked out what to when I get to Bangor (probably train home). Anyway an idea for you. I have another version that goes via the Devils Staircase as well which looks lush but quite hard:

  • 10 Peaks on Sat.

    ?units=km

Although I currently feel like shite so I may still pull the pin on it.

  • Question about multi-day DIYs:

If I break an 800k ride into 50k "per day" chunks, could I ride two or three of the chunks in one day and then say if it was harder terrain, only ride 1 or 2 of the 50k chunks?

Or do you have to commit to a "per day" distance before you start the multi-day DIY and only do that distance, no more/no less, on each actual calendar day?

If it's the latter, I guess another option would be to enter each 50k of the ride as a separate 50k BP in advance of the event and just make sure I email DIY org before I start each 50k or something like that (and also make sure I'm above 10kph BP min. speed for each).

  • oh amazing, thank you. Could you also send the devil's staircase route? Would be nice to have a different route for the way back.

    Thanks so much

  • Here you go: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40278327

Ridewithgps tells me there is no off road, but worth a check. This also hasn't been planned with stopping at certain points in mind, just a way that looks nice!

  • Does anyone know what Lôn Las Cymru is like

It's lovely. Apart from the Anglesey bit which is shite.
Did it as a 4-5 day tour starting in Cardiff with my wife a few years ago.

  • I have an entry. Dreading it. Haven't ridden since March. Going to fit all the low gears this weekend.

  • I did a DIY by GPS 600 the other week, so not quite as long, but I just sent the org the total route before I started. As I understand it I just then had to complete the ride within 40 hours from the start time, the intermediate times didn’t matter as there were no controls per se (If I’ve understood the question correctly? Probably best ask your DIY org to be sure I guess)

  • Yeah, that's a normal DIY. I'm talking about a particular type - a multiday Brevet Populaire DIY. You can basically make a cycle tour a DIY with say 6 days x 50k per day. Except I'm trying to find out if I can do the same thing but ride it all in one go. Or at least, more than one 50k chunk per day.

  • Kind of like this stuff:
    https://audax.uk/about-audax/event-types/permanent-events/end-to-end/

    "End to End - 7 x 200km Randonneur - 1400km (minimum)
A multi-day ride under Brevet Randonneur standards.
Riders have 240 hours (10 days) to get from tip to toe (or vice versa) of the UK. The overall time limit means that riders can incorporate rest days, but the ride will include at least 4 days where the following day will be spent in the saddle. ALL individual day stages MUST be at least 200km with suitable start, finish and intermediate controls. This means your overall ride will inevitably be quite a bit further than 1400km. Start/finish controls must be consecutive."

  • Ah cool, sorry I didn’t know that was a thing :) good to know about for future adventures though, thanks!

  • I quite liked the look of this, haven’t done 10,000+ ft climbing for a couple of years though

  • I might still not do it. It's 3am and I'm awake in pain. This is not how I expected my recovery to go.
