Left house at 5:15am in a breezy 22 degrees. Fucking dreading the 20 mile ride home at 4:30.

A few miles north of Heathrow, sitting outside in rear patio.
Normal cooling breeze, windchill possible even at 30+C, instead delivers oven-like gusts of even hotter air.Expecting more figs to ripen this Summer.

Just getting ready to go do an evening shift in a commercial kitchen.
Not expecting it to be pleasant.

Sky news has taken a somber tone now 40c has been reached. It’s like they’ve been told not to sound triumphant or celebratory.

Last night I lit a few citronella tea lights after being woken up twice by the whining little fuckers dive bombing me in the early hours.
For tonight I have rigged a top line with a mozzie net hanging off it.

I am wearing a wet cycling hat and a damp tea towel around my neck and it helps quite a bit.

This is so cold in contrast to the air that it is very very painful

The south east, so far this tear, is running at 62% of the long term average for rain. The ground was dry before this heatwave. Humidity is low, (for the UK), so the atmosphere above us is not holding much moisture.
Compare with July 2021, when London had 2 1-in-400 year events in the same month.

First time I’ve opened this thread in 8 years, last thing I saw was hippy having a sook, I’m guessing because of the shitty rain. HAPPY NOW?
Yes - I can sit on the side dangling my legs in. Not quite the same as a full dip though.
