Yeah, it's a matter of taste of course, the 44GS was always a relatively large watch even when it was new, and being hand wound at least it's only 10.5mm thick which is great. 38 would probably be my sweet spot for a 44GS though.
For sure but I think the big lugs might be carrying a lot of the extra 2mm. Hand wound spring drive / slim / leather strap / sexy dial are all A++
