Thank god I took this week off, although I had wanted to do more stuff for myself so it's pretty annoying; just going to spend today and tomorrow with the blackout curtains closed while the sun's up. I normally work at an old NHS building which is Grade II listed so obviously no attempt at installing air con has ever been made, and once the sun hits the west side of it the office gets shimmeringly hot (having said that I think I've only worked in one NHS job that bought an air conditioner, and that was a monolithic thing that took up tons of floor space and sounded like a lawn mower).

apply a sock or stocking full of ice to underpants to cool down quickly and impress all those around you... until it starts melting...

Thank god I scheduled my wisdom removal for this morning so I can't eat or drink properly during this warm spell. How to make discomfort even more discomfortable, expert level.

I prefer a dry bag full of ice, and the crotch is way too fleshy, it’s best applied at the nape of the neck.

Took the dog out for a walk at 6am today. On the way home I bumped into one of our neighbours...he was wearing jeans and a bomber jacket.
Turns out that 22 degrees is pretty chilly for a fella who has just returned from Pakistan!

At least you have a good excuse to wrap one of those dental pain freezer packs around your head?
Can't remember what the dentist said about cold liquids when I had mine out, but they seemed more against me drinking hot stuff or using a straw tbh. I was drinking iced coffee for a few days, or simply letting a cup of coffee go cold, but you almost certainly will spill whatever you try to drink all down yourself because your jaw gets so stiff. Buy in plenty of high protein yoghurt now for something cold that doesn't require chewing? -

I don't remember what she said about cold stuff but she said no food or drink for the first few hours and then only soft stuff. She said tomorrow I was to do warm water w/ salt mouth rinses and she said "wtf" when I said I plan to ride a 200k in Wales on Sat. :)
I've got the missus on the iced coffee, milkshake, icecream ordering so hope that shit turns up. Have some yog around already. Feeling/Pain is starting to come now so that's going to make me very cheerful.

Lol, I have neighbors like this, most of the summer will go for a walk in a winter jacket and trousers, I don't get it, some of them have been here decades but apparently haven't acclimatised, dread to think what their heating bills are like

I think I was told no hot drinks for 24 hours, mainly as might burn yourself and realise but also something to do with the clotting

Paracetamol and slightly warm water they said and no rinsing of mouth today and brush daily from tomorrow.

Dairylea/Laughing Cow triangles also a good cold option for something you can shove into your mouth without chewing.

My wife spent her early years in the UAE (and is of Palestinian heritage). One late night when we were there together in 2018 it was 34 degrees and very humid from a sea fog. I was melting. Jana put a jumper on. You can take the girl out of the Emirates...

Thank fuck for that!
When I looked up Lahore this morning, the temp was only 33 degrees but the "real feel" was 49 degrees due to the 88% humidity!

Surprised at how ferociously effective the aircon is in the court where I am spending today and tomorrow. It was a shock to pop out to the sandwich van and realise it is so warm out.

My front room sensor is saying 47%. That makes this heat much more bearable. In HK it wasn’t the heat that dun you in it was the humidity.
Tips from hotter countries: hydrate!!!; keep the sun out during the day, and open windows when it’s cooler outside, pointing a fan out the window to get warm air out; apply a sock or stocking full of ice to nape to cool down quickly; wet hands and soles of feet before bed; keep wet hand towels and as much water as you need in fridge; use umbrellas as parasols.
