St Austell isn't that bad, Charlestown etc is very nice and lots going on in the high street to improve it.

I grew up 5 miles away. I know exactly how much of a shit hole that town was, is and always will be. Charlestown is a lovely spot though

Surely he should stick to John Wayne movies and 1950s western novels if he wants the "Bringing civilisation to the savages" narrative
-
• #26631
Genuinely think that's a windup.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I suppose the should cremate him on a load of old pallets really, it’s what he would’ve wanted.

He wouldn't even be safe there, as something like John Ford's The Searchers (1956) brilliantly challenges that particular narrative stereotype. It's arguably John Wayne's best performance.

Are these protestant fanatics allowed to cremate though?
-
• #26635
Yeah, they are, I grew up among them. They used to stay up all night in the week before, guarding their bonfires in case Catholics sneaked into the estate and lit them a few days early. There'd be occasional times where someone would fall asleep on guard duty in the bowels of the structure and the boney would get lit.
All a bit Darwin Awards-y, but that's NI for you.

Thanks. Not very common with the Dutch conservative protestants to cremate.
Those bonfires are bonkers. Hope one day they (and the counter actions) they won't be necessary and NI can finally all get along. Will take a while, surely. -
