He and JMcD would have borrowed tonnes of money and given it away in handouts during the covid crisis, pushing the country into debt.
It would have been disastrous.

It's mad how Corbyn lives in social housing rent free in their heads still
-
• #75179
Then don't move to the countryside 😁
He's a horrible misogynist from what I've heard of people who've met him but doubt the Tories will lose here in the next 20 years.

If it's Truss I expect the NI protocol hassle will keep going, we won't have a government again (even with new elections though the DUP backing Boris may backfire) utter shitshow.
But definitely a higher standard of chaos than with Ed Milliband ;)

Better than some but still tows the party line 100% 9f the time. and is a Tory.
-
• #75182
I was going to ask the same. He's always struck me as pretty decent, albeit with different ideologies to me on some issues.

"Trying to pick the next Tory leader is like trying to pick which portaloo to go to at Glastonbury"
Lol. -

On a serious note, while no one knows if it would have been worse I think the issues you'd have had would be;
- Small majority
- No resolution on Brexit (lol)
- Epic borrowing for investment which would have immediately halted, just before even more borrowing for covid
- No clear or constructive policy over Ukraine.
Personally I think the main problem would actually have been the press and opposition. Which is hardly his fault.
- Small majority

So do these minister un-resign or something?
-
• #75186
Lol, apparently Johnson trying to negotiate staying on until he achieves a longer term as May
-
• #75187
There seems to be an emerging cross-party consensus that him staying on until October is not sustainable, which seems plainly obvious given his lack of cabinet.
The Vice-Chair of the 1922 Committee is currently on Woman's Hour and has just said that he doesn't have the confidence of the party so should move aside and let Raab - as Deputy PM - run the country.

boris hanging on so he can spend the summer at chequers. and give him time to pinch a few art works to support himself in his dotage
-
• #75189
he doesn't have the confidence of the party so should move aside
well, obviously...
and let Raab - as Deputy PM - run the country
oh, hang on...
-
• #75190
Whoever is in role will not be progressing any legislation through parliament so does it really matter? This country is on hold till the Tories get someone voted in.
-
• #75191
Hah, exactly, that's the 'why is nobody else suggesting Raab' problem isn't it.
Lots of folk currently suggesting a return by TM, weirdly...

It's on hold from 21 July until after the conference season anyway because of the summer recess. And there's no way this will be properly sorted out by then.
For all the talk of "there's a cost of living crisis we can't just have a non-functioning government" that's what will happen over summer, unless they recall Parliament (not going to happen).
Unless you're a rabid Tory/Brexiter this is for the best, as any laws they passed would almost certainly make things worse anyway.

Have rarely despised anyone more.
I hope he uses some of the time he will soon have on his hands to set his bike up tubeless (being famously tight about paying for his bike servicing, see the Evans thread I think) and, being tight, uses some older tyres which, once installed, inflated and with sealant added, turn out to be full of tiny cuts which constantly re-puncture whenever he pumps his tyres up above 40psi, resulting in a constant hissing and spluttering noise from his wheels and sealant on his clothes.

I hope he cries in his resignation speech like May did

Idk. We could do with some strength and stability.
Joking aside, as an interim PM I think she would at least have the sort of work ethic and process competence we could do with.

Ha ha ha! Yeah!

A politics discussion broke out in the gym this morning. Roughly 8 to 10 pensioners using their free local authority gym passes (yay Labour Lewisham!). I have known some of them for years, but not all. Safe to say some of these old chaps struggle to heat their homes in winter.
General consensus was this:
Johnson is a liar and is corrupt and has to go.
Keir Starmer is a worse liar and more corrupt than Johnson and would destroy the country in days.
Added bonus: Jeremy Corbyn is an IRA sympathiser. To be fair, there were two people (Mirror readers) who were more pro Labour.
I really don't think we're in a good situation as a country.
Has Penfold put his name forward yet?
