How'd you manage to grind off some chainring teeth
I slid across the road after trying to get round a 35mph corner at 45mph plus.
The slide was rapidly arrested by a solid roadside boulder on the opposite verge. Chain ring was part of the impact surface....

Should’ve gone straight on.

Should’ve gone straight on.
Yep.
A dunk in the drink would've been infinitely preferable. #hippylepoisson
It was dark.
I was drunk.
It all happened terribly quickly.

roll of similarly garish pink tape
Thanks for this but it's unnecessary.
That tape was already shot and worn through. I actually packed a couple of rolls of Fizik Tempo bright pink with me, intending to wrap the bars during the trip, thinking that some low level spannering would be relaxing. Oh the irony.
(Luckily I hadn't done it by the time of the crash)
I'll wrap once I've decided on handlebar integrity.

Opposite direction.
Ah yes, I see - Andy was recommending a gravel ride.
His advice still valid but for different reasons.

Indeed, glad you didn’t fare worse!

Thought this was the latest Tory excuses thread for a moment.

Ha!

Bin your bars. Better now than later on your bars snapping and you having a nother spill.

The slide was rapidly arrested
Brilliant!
E: (The eloquent use of language, not the crash)

Definitely the default choice, and I know it is accepted wisdom. But I am interested in the opinion of a material scientist / metallurgist.
Also interested in any anecdata to support the failure narrative, if anyone has any?
-
• #20043
The failure was smashing them in to a rock at 45mph
-
• #20044
True (not really, they went nowhere near the rock)
To be clear I'm talking about subsequent structural failure.

But I am interested in the opinion of a material scientist / metallurgist
A former neighbour was a PhD engineer who did a lot of consulting, in particular for component failure analysis. He spent enormous amounts of time using the scanning electron microscope at the Natural History Museum as part of his work. It was his primary tool for his work. He now leads Consumer Product Safety for Amazon in Europe.
Based on that piece of information and some cost benefit and basic risk analysis: swap out the bars.
Besides. They are clearly cursed. Or haunted.
You are welcome to come by and pick @LongAndWinding 's brain if you prefer a longer discussion.

I've added in "desire for new kit" to the decision making calculus.
Sorted.

People who say “careful” when you’ve just had a mishap.
Why the hell didn’t you say that earlier? -
• #20048
People who litter in general, but especially those that do it publicly like it's no big deal. Just rode by an old man walking his dog who took a bunch of receipts from his pocket and just threw them on the floor nonchalantly. Ten meters away from a big garbage bin. Cunt.
