Why was Thomas slow? Was it just the jacket?

In the (apparently controversial) interview he gave post-stage, he said he took it too cautiously on the corners in the first half and lost time there. He decided to take more risks in the second half. I've not seen all the splits, but he was reportedly the third fastest rider from the intermediate split to the finish.

Because he rode like his wife, who hasn't ridden a bike in 12 years. And now you can get offended on her behalf.

Shame for him.
A bit silly though. You can't get things wrong like that at the top level and not be punished. It is a very Thomas thing to do. He doesn't have much luck. I guess when you're known for crashing, psyching yourself out about it and doing the opposite is quite believable. -

Thomas always finds a way to get it wrong. Sigh…

Not good enough. She should be offended on my behalf, as I feel offended.

It does seem Yves Lampart ride is pretty unprecedented for him. Is there any talk, from him or team, of why he's suddenly found a new level?
Is it a case he could throw all caution to the wind and take big risks on the corners? Unlike others.

Looked drier for him when he was out, bunch of favorites seemed to have gone out at the thick of the bad weather

There’s no doubting his power. A good day combined with slightly better conditions than some others I suppose.

If you'd told me before the stage that he'd finish in the top ten, I'd have not thought that unusual. Winning is a surprise, but he's a talented rider who, I think, lacks the self belief and confidence to be a leader, and prefers to ride as a support rider instead.
He definitely had an advantage yesterday as it was drier when he rode and, as he doesn't have GC or stage winning expectations like most of the rest of the top ten, he could take more risks on the tricky parts.

I was in a field yesterday. This is really difficult to wake up to this morning.
Poor Denmark.

It is such a beautiful sport
I think Lampaert was right up there in Paris roubaix last year until he got taken out by a spectator

EF bus was heaving in the paddock yesterday. Reckon these utility vests will be going for silly money on eBay soon Not much going on with Jumbo Visma other than a lot of Pringles witnessed. I was watching on the first corner - crowds were huge though once Jonas had gone round a lot of home fans left - the rain was atrocious. The bridge will be fun I hope. I drove over it last night, it costs around £30 - worth every penny

Do the riders have to queue to pay or is it free to cyclists?
The team cars etc will have to pay so it’ll be carnage at the booths.
We went under it around 6 weeks ago. It looks really exposed, a good chance of a big split?
I doubt many had Adam Yates as the next best Ineos rider after Ganna before the stage started.
