From the graun article:
Last year Piquet drove as a chauffeur to Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, at the country’s Independence Day.
oof!

Apparently Red Bull won't be issuing a statement on it, which given the Vips issue last week, is not a good look.

Depressingly unsurprising from Red Bull
-
• #9005
Gonna be some awkward questions fired Verstappen's way also
-
• #9006
Yeah that sucks.

• #9007
Piquet has form, too, the prick.

To be fair, "retired F1 dude gives opinion" generally tends to be the same sort of thing. Whether it's Ecclestone, Villeneuve, Mansell, Moss etc. It tends to be a case of "irrelevant and out of touch person gives irrelevant and out of touch opinion".
Granted it's not usually outright racism, but generally tends to be all a bit worthless.

I wonder what his daughter thinks about all this. I hope she's mortified.

Yeah it's a bit of a shit situation all round. Obviously Max/Kelly are not the primary victims here and at least Lewis seems to have support rallying around from all corners (whether that's genuine or the same sort of shit as a company slapping some rainbow colours on it's logo and calling it a day is another thing).
But having to decide between publicly calling out your FiL for being a racist, or being declared a racist, well, family holidays are likely gonna get a bit more awkward going forward.

Dad you are either a racist, an idiot, or both

The fact that she liked, then promptly unliked this post shows how she feels.
Fuck all of them.

Shit just got (potentially, unless he's also in agreement) more awkward for Max:
-
• #9016
Given the context i'm not sure we should be too worried about how Max and Kelly are holding up.
-
• #9017
Oh, this is some awkward timing to make this release now:
Obviously the racism is shit and should absolutely not have any place in the sport (or society at all of course), but I am looking forward to some actual racing content to get the thread back on track (pun intended)

"But people say things, and people talk about people if they happen to be little bit overweight, or a little bit undersized like me. I'm quite sure people have made remarks about that. If I'd have heard it, I'd have been able to deal with it myself without too much trouble."Wasn't a great excuse when Jimmy Hill tried it 18 years ago

Is that carte blanche to shoot Ecclestone...?

What does max have to do with whatever his fil is saying?
-
• #9023
IMO the conversation should be about the racist drivel that exists in F1 and not Max and Kelly. That said i think when your girlfriends dad comes out with some backwards racist BS most people would be keen to distance themselves from those comments.
-
• #9024
Nothing really, but he's likely gonna be put on the spot between calling his FiL a racist or being accused of being a racist in order to generate click-bait headlines
-
• #9025
Reasonable response from Verstappen spun into a click-bait headline as expected: https://the-race.com/formula-1/verstappen-piquet-ban-sought-by-f1-not-helping-situation/
The comments Piquet has made about Hamilton are bad enough - until you discover he's Verstappen's GF's dad.
FFS F1, sort it out
