It’ll be noticeably better than an £80 used Squier, though.
If you want to cut the price then you can wire it up yourself, and look at the mega-cheap AlNiCo pickups you can find on Amazon for £25 (I put an HSS set in my old Strat, they sound great).
I usually default to buying Creamery pickups (and they’re cheap, for hand-wound boutique pickups), but the Amazon cheapos were a real surprise.
I must admit I’m beginning to question the sanity and economics of building a partscaster. I’m only 120 quid in on a cheap body and neck so far but paint is gonna be 60, hardware a couple of hundred, pickups and harness up to 300 if I want something decent… I know it’s all good fun but when you can pick up s/h squier for 80 in fully working nick, it does seem insane .
