• That long wait for the 'ships by' date makes me think it's dropshipping from China or something similar? Definitely wouldn't be confident you'd get the actual product that's advertised.

  • Is it a new thing on ebay that you can buy stuff, receive a dispatched notification, and a tracking number, but that there is no item and nothing has been sent at all?

I've bought a load of small electronics components from various retailers over the past couple of weeks, where I have specified UK only (and paid a small premium over imports from China), where it appears that the business actually is China-based, and that they are able to string you along until things are shipped overseas.

  • Product description: "PLEASE ASK FOR SHIPPING PRICE BEFORE PAYING"
    Seller: never responds to messages

    wtf

  • Is there a time limit on Click and Collect stuff? Or have I just been fucked over by a shop?
Ordered something to be delivered to an ebay click and collect place and it's gone back to the sender with no notice to the recipient to come and get it, no notice it was being returned, etc.

Is there some way to report shit Click and Collect places to ebay?

Your parcel will be held in-store for up to 7 days from when we notify
you. If you can’t collect your parcel within this time, it will be
returned to the seller and you’ll receive a refund.

  • Seller buys something, pays via PayPal then collects and then a week later opens a case saying the item doesn't work.

Has till the 12th to send it back and just sends it back yesterday.

Anyway I can get out of refunding him even tho hes I know hes just used the item and didnt want to use it again.

    CUNTSSS

  • Another issue, bought a motorbike that I cant collect till the 27th as Im down next to the place then.

Seller messages saying can you BT me £500 heres my details.

I was like nah I aint doing that but will PayPal you it if ok or can just wait and ill pay full cash on collection. I think im doing the right thing also have a 10 years and the rest on ebay so not gonna not take it as I want it.

  • I wasn't notified.
It seems that this store has form for just rejecting parcels, looking at their google reviews.

  • Bought a couple of cheap new stems from a UK seller who accepted returns. Went to return today and the return address is in China! I've messaged the seller, no reply yet.

  • Contact ebay, I think there's been posts about that in here before and iirc they just refund you without needing to return.

  • I got sold a dud fake "Ritchey" stem : "CORBON ALLOV" haha
Ebay won't step in as I stupidly didn't realise it till 30 days afterwards when I got off my lazy ass to begin installing it.

I'll just laugh and take the hit :(

Anyone want a free "Ritchey" stem? lol

  • How did you pay? I'm sure PayPal used to allow up to 180days to raise a dispute

  • Selling some parts to someone in DK who I've agreed to post from Ireland next time I am there. Anyone done this? I don't know how to price the postage cost upfront or whether to wait and bill him afterwards...

  • Royal Mail have a ‘price finder’ where you can enter destination, size, weight etc and get a price. Dunno if Royal Mail are in there but of Ireland you’ll be in but whatever the service you’ll use, they probably have something similar no?

  • I’ve been buying and selling on ebay for 20 years and never had any major problems. I’ve always been cautious about high value items.
Recently I sold a piece of hi-fi equipment which by its nature, requires adjustment to suit the users needs.
Someone offered me less than the asking price and bought it. They tried to adjust it and broke it. They claim that the plastic dip switches were brittle and as such the item is defective and want to return it for a full refund.
Obviously the unit was working perfectly when sent but I hadn’t needed to adjust its settings for several years.
The buyer has requested a ‘return’ rather than an ‘item not as described’. I offered to pay to have it repaired but he’s upset now and said he wants to buy something else.
I’m already out of pocket whatever I do but what do you think my chances are if I refuse his return? Ebay will just screw me even harder right and give him his money back?

  • Nightmare, sounds like a sorry situation. My gut says that eBay would put this kind of dispute into the 'too difficult' pile and refund him at your expense, but if it is a high value item and you think you could make your case in writing then personally I'd be tempted to dig in and see what happens. Maybe there is a way to escalate things and get the problem in front of someone who is able to spend 5mins trying to understand the sequence of events.

Good luck if you choose to push back.

  • Yeah agreed, a bit of a nightmare. Do you have any evidence that you sold the item in good working condition?

If you accepted a return, can you source replacement plastic dip switches? Then resell? It's a high faff low risk approach to getting the money. But there still a risk that the buyer has broken something else on the unit...

  • Thanks - been recommended An Post as the RM equivalent as I'll not be posting it from the UK.

  • No I can’t prove it was working. However, ebay have kind of suggested that the buyer has incriminated himself because when he raised the return he actually said ‘I tried to gently adjust the switches and they broke’. So there may still be a chance I can offer only a partial refund. We’ll see. I can get the unit repaired but I don’t want to lose the two lots of postage and ebay fees, which add up to about £130 all because of a ham-fisted buyer! If I can at least get him to contribute to the repair I’ll feel a lot better about the situation.

  • You're lucky - I sold a cassette player on eBay that I had actual videos of it working on the listing, and the person I sold it just claimed to eBay that it didn't work and forced me to take it back. Still salty about that!

  • How old was the unit? Could it be that the switches were just fucked due to age and heat cycles, but you hadn't tested them, so you didn't know.

It sucks but, on eBay, with anything vaguely complicated you have to be absolutely sure that it all works, every last bloody bit of it, before shipping it. It's barely worth it tbh.

  • Oh for sure; it’s entirely possible that the switches had become brittle and I accept that technically they should be ‘operable’ for the unit to be fully functional.
I’m entirely happy to accept responsibility for that.
What I’ll never know is whether they were fine and the guy was just too heavy handed.
Either way I think the fairer approach would be for me to pay for the repair.
Overall the situation just sucks and I’m just totally put off selling anything of high value now.

  • absolutely sure that it all works, every last bloody bit of it

Even then…. (Salty seller here also)

  • Final update. Accepted the sellers return; item promptly returned broken. Buyer (who I'm now ignoring as he's sending me 500 million messages a day, including legal threats and I've decided to just let ebay handle it) gets perplexed and asks ebay for help the day I receive the item back.
Ebay automatically refund him his full purchase price and say they will 'seek to reclaim the full value from me'.
Naturally I appeal the decision based on the fact that I now have a broken item and I'm almost £200 down in fees and postage. To be fair to ebay, they approved my appeal and knocked said £200 off what I now owe them plus a contribution to repair costs.
So I'm (hopefully) not out of pocket but I have a broken device which I now have the hassle of getting repaired.
This has definitely put me off selling anything of high value when even if a buyer openly admits to breaking something they still automatically 'win'.

  • Trying to sell something on ebay for the first time ever (a bike). I've been using my account as a buyer only for years now.

It won't let me publish my ad because apparently there's a $200 limit. I'm trying to list it for 450€ Buy Now...is this supposed to happen?! Such a low limit? I've tried requesting an increase but it's automatically rejected saying "You may need to build up your selling history or wait until your current monthly limit is reset before you can request another increase to your selling limits."

Really, I need to find trash to sell around the house so I can be allowed to list my bike...?
