I think I killed my tormek.
Last time I used it I spilt the water bath over the motor unit. Today when I turned it on sparks, smoke the whole shebang, it's about 5 years out of warranty and they're a lot more expensive now than when I bought it. Hopefully Terry the tool man can work his magic or this could get expensive.

I've had the opportunity to do some really nice work with proper lining paper and it came out very well. I did the whole job myself with roller and brush, as I said before, you just need to be fast and that tends to come with experience. It helps if you use something like the pelican from wooster. I use something similar that has a roller cage and accommodates a wider roller but there are many available.
Especially the second coat you should be able to paint very quickly. There are times when it's worth putting an undercoat on the walls if you're not lining.
If you are obsessive you'll have to look at lots of extra techniques to achieve a decent finish in painting. Ask me how I know!

Has anyone used Heritage Brass ironmongery/front door furniture? Any good?
It’s a lot cheaper than some of the other brands we’ve looked at and wondering how the quality stacks up.

Got kitchen door handles from them (black, not brass) - seem fine

If its the company I'm thinking of, they are ok, not some magic epic quality for Internet cheaps type of a place though. Most of their stuff is brass coloured metal and not actual brass. Actual high quality ironmongery is pretty much extinct now.

Not at all, it just comes at prices that makes you feel like you've been kicked squarely in the happy place with steel toes.
About 3 years ago I did a lot work at a house renovation in Hammersmith the building was nothing special but was a 4 story building that was previously bedsits, the new owners turned it into a single occupancy house. Mummy and daddy were footing the bill and the budget for the door handles alone came in North of £15k. They were not unattractive and were solid brass castings but the owner was looking for ways to "accelerate the patina".

Does anyone have any recommendations for plasterers in SW London, my parents are looking for someone reliable that won't cost the earth to plaster a bedroom

They were very nice........
I'm not sure I'd spring for them even if I had the money.
Mummy and Daddy lived between Jersey and the Cayman Islands for tax reasons.

I know a guy whose based in Ealing but he's expensive he prefers traditional work. So bonding coat --> finish coat rather than skim on plasterboard.

That will probably appeal to my dad tbh

I hope they had nice doors

Any idea where from? Most of the times I've found stuff online from"specialists" it's turned out to be cheap stuff priced up. Almost always have to return it.

Scaffolders! How much do they earn a year, 1, 1.2 mil?
Trying to get quotes to get roof access. Need 10m in height, 5m in length on one face so no corners. Or 15m with a single 45 corner. On pavement, i can get permits easy enough, boarded at top level only, single ladder access. For 1 month.
First guy wanted £5.5k, told him to go milk some other poor bastard. Second guy wants £3k, or £3.5k with permits. Permit is £101 a month, £25 a week to extend, requires one form on council website and they push it through in under a week. So caught him fucking up there, £399 to "admin" a single form. Both were quoting for the short section.
Real price in my mind is around £1500 first month, then a few hundred a month to extend.
Am i way out of touch, or are all Scaffolders minted?

Feels (very) light. It's going to be a day's work at either end for 3-4 guys, right? Hard to see how you make a million a year charging £3k for that.

The mil comment is a joke. The price is a joke, just trying to figure by what % is a piss take
He said him and one other a day each end plus travel. But a day to them is 5 hours of actual work, fecking hard work breaking scaff, but it's their choice to get into that industry. If it was our own land /access /no risk of public being hurt, its another matter, few hundred quid to hire a quick tower and just mince on with it. But liability aspect is huge as its a busy pavement so have to use contractors with liability policies in place = £££
Yes, definitely!
I kind of stole the idea/got inspired by @chrisbmx116 (?) place which does something not wholly disimilar, albeit far more refined than what I expect I’ll end up with..!
