This actually looks super shreddy and fun for park... -

How about buying this and then selling it again in September?
-
• #24105
I don't think you could go too wrong with that!
There are a few of the following in under £2k budget that tick the boxes too on Pinkbike (I won't link them all but you'll find them handy enough...)
Trek Remedy
Giant Reign
Bird Aeris
Nukeproof Mega
Norco RangeI reckon the Trek Remedy would be a nice shout and easy enough to move on afterwards, resale might be more robust than the Vitus?

I had a response from a hire place, £720. I think I'd probably lose less on buying something, taking it out, bringing it back and then selling it again.

£720
I bought a really nice mtb for less than that once :'(

Yes, it's a lot. I would prefer to pay less, and am working to achieve that.
Different, but related topic - I've ended up with loads of parts that I don't need/could use the money from on hire bikes, is Pinkbike better than eBay as somewhere to list stuff like my DHX shock?

Have you not seen the high level of modern mtb tech that's being sold on lfgss these days?

Pinkbike better than eBay
PB is definitely a smaller market, but generally I've found sales to be swift and hassle free
One friend did recently get scammed on there trying to buy some forks which never arrived, PayPal immediately refunded him -

Cheers. Next question is how much to ask for the shock- £450 with a spring sound too spicy?
-
• #24113
I've heard a few horror stories about people getting scammed on Pinkbike.
Might be worth trying STW?

if you know what you are doing, you will be fine, even on fb marketplace

If you are selling a thing, only accept cash. If you are buying a thing, only pay with PayPal :)

Holy moly. I bet it would come with hard compound tyres and a bald rear too. Definitely buy something!

@Dammit any joy on sourcing a bike for your gf yet?
You could try ringing around the various bike tour or chalet hire companies in Morzine as they often have a bike or two they are willing to hire out e. g. https://www.mtbbeds.com/resorts/morzine-mountain-biking-holiday
(not necessarily a recommendation, just the first thing on Google search. Others are available)

Do we have a recommended affordable sunglasses for sunny days in and out of the woods. Mine are too dark in dense shade. How quick do photochromatics adjust? Are there any out there with just a base light tint to take the edge off full sun, but not darken things too much?

Off the top of anyone's head, do you know if a Cane Creek Db coil IL 200x50 is identical to a 200x57, save for a stroke reducing clip under the bottom out bumper? The CC website seems to suggest thats the case, but my 200x50 doesn't have a clip under the bumper, and it's definitely not 57mm stroke when bottomed out. Unless they're including the bottom out bumper, fully compressed?
I've emailed Cane Creek but no reply
Cane Creek finally replied, and they've confirmed what I thought. My shock was built as 200x57 according to the serial number, it just needs a clip under the bumper to make it 50mm.
The upshot of this is that I've been riding with 17mm more rear travel than I thought I had, which has made me not only reconsider if I do actually need a longer travel frame, but also re-evaluate whether I know how to use a ruler properly 🤷🏼♂️ -

How quick do photochromatics adjust?
Quick enough, I've got some Tiffosis they're good, loos pretty casual too. Also they're useful for commuting in winter.

Anyone got access to a 3D printer who could knock up this for less than £9? Ideally for less than £9 worth of beer?

I have Shimano ones, light coloured glasses that improve contrast in the woodsie bits and keep bugs and branches out of my eyes. €70ish

If I track a Mtb ride on my wahoo and upload to strava it estimates power but am I right in guessing it doesn’t know I’m off road on fat tyres so probably underestimates power?

How much do you want your morale ruining?
Think the thing to bear in mind is that on the road the surface it's fairly consistent, where as off it's very inconsistent.
Vitus Escarpe 27 CRS
This looks very alright and would presumably arrive in the next day or two...
